STAR'S END Update 05.13.07   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #272 of 407 |
K Leimer has a nuanced approach to music. His passionate
and contemplative attributes may be found on THE USELESS
LESSON (65'32") - an exercise in imaginative and formal
invention. There is emotional power within the conventionally
structured parts. The instrumental lines move counterpoint to
one another with calming sweet tones as the pieces travel along
their lovely arc. Beyond these sections our sense of time seems
to stretch. Leimer's sonic environments are comprised of layers
of slowly evolving sustaining tones. Contrasting sounds and
drones are carefully arranged to direct attention inward.
Somewhere in the middle of Leimer's timbral symphony,
percussion is introduced. With all its velocity, this section plays
to the front edge of the listener's senses. THE USELESS
LESSON is somber and elegant, ranging from chamber concert
poise to cemetery serene. By combining blurry classical
influences with weightless ambient music, Leimer's work
creates an atmosphere - the user provides the meaning.

Tune in to STAR'S END this weekend for music from the new CD
THE USELESS LESSON by K Leimer

Steve Roach - Live on STAR'S END 05.20.07

A pioneer in contemporary electronic music, Steve Roach is a
leading innovator in the atmospheric/tribal/ambient music world.
Drawing on the beauty and power of the earth's landscapes,
Roach creates lush, meditative soundscapes. His music exists
outside conventional boundaries and is restless in its search for
new sounds that connect with an ancient source. Over the past
20 years, Roach has been a rare constant as live performer on
the international electronic music scene. With over 50 albums to
his credit he continues to set the standards by which this
evolving genre is measured.

Following his 19 May 2007 performance at The Gatherings
Concert Series, Steve Roach will play a live in-studio radio
concert on the 05.20.07 broadcast of STAR'S END.
