Well, who would have thought that after roughly 18 months of starting
a Yahoo! Club devoted to Steinbergers that we'd have over 400
memebers, over 3000 posts, and roughly 15,000 page views. There's a
wealth of information that's been passed along in that time, but
things have gotten pretty big so it's definitely time to upgrade.
Hence our migration to Yahoo! Groups.
We'll have all of the same great discussions with some added bonuses:
- Customizeable email. You can get them one by one, or get daily
updates with only the most recent posts.
- Online, real-time polls.
- True file archive, for more than just pics.
- Extensive photo and database access. We'll be adding things like
the elusive serial number database plus other goodies.
And the big one. . .
- SEARCHABLE ARCHIVES! No need to scroll and and manually search
though hundreds of messages to find that old post you remember
reading.
Over time we'll copy some of the more meaningful posts and pics over
from the Club archive. Unfortunately there's no way to convert them
from the Club to the Group - but what can we say when the service is
free? If things continue to grow, we can also migrate to a
moderated format in order to keep the discussions moving along.
So join in, stay tuned and be headless!

My sincerest appreciation to Andy & Landru for all the work you have
done...and all that your doing to set forth an objective source of

Hi guys.
Took me a while to figure out all that Yahoo nonsense, but I got
here, and I'm glad to be in such esteemed company!! Regards to
Michael, Andy, Landru.

Greetings from across the big pond!! Hey guys...as we accumulate
members let's take pics of all our toys..."collage" them together via
the computer into a big pic... & use them on the website... & that
pic would make a great Christmas card...especially to Ned...just our
way of letting him know how much we appreciate his design...the best
to all who are & want to be headless!

HI Micahel!
Good idea, man! My photography needs a little work though... As an
aside, I really can't understand why Bergers weren't more popular. I
plugged into a guys amp during a recent support slot. He had a
Musicman Stingray, and it was like someone had punched a "Balls"
and "Clarity" preset or something. He was astounded by the tone of
the L2, genuinely. Guys here think the stingray is the pinnacle of
bass design.
I also want to chime in thanking Andy and the others for providing this
amazing service! My knowledge of Steinbergers has increased so much
over the last year becuase of this group. I also have enjoyed the
easygoing and supportive nature of this group. Some of the other groups
I belong to have autocratic "moderators." I am often interested in the
"off topic" comments as much as the "approved" type. The people who
choose Steinbergers, even at this late date seem to be the cool kind of
insane people I am proud to be associated with.
I only hope that signature will be automatic, because I'd really like
to connect a name with the message.
Thanks,
Louie Fleck
(XL-5, XM-5, XQ5, GM4T and several Steinberger straps!)
This reminds me of that realy bad sci-fi show from the early 80's. I
think it was called "Arc-II" where all the Earth's inhabitants were
to
get into some big spaceship that would take them to a more livable
place. I know this will be that place for all Steinberger savy folks
of
the world. So can I buy you all a beer to celebrate?
JK
The last 2 posters have great ideas....cudos to Louie for that cool
signature of listing his current Steinies...nice to know what members
are currently playing...I would like to go one step further on Joe's
beer offer...once all the permanent sites are up & running...let's
throw a bash(have lot's of brewskies, invite Ned as the guest of honor
(even pay his airfare to get him there)....give him an engraved
plaque with a silver XL2 on it....& then we all jam the night away!
Signed, Michael Thomas...currently with 4 Steinies: 2 guitars(GM5T &
GM7TA)...& 2 basses (XM2 & XL2)
As much as I'd love to see what everyone owns, I'd ask we refrain
from doing it as a signature for each post. If anyone wants to
search the archives later on for say "GM", every message that
contains it will come up. Just trying to think ahead.

Hey Joe... I'll take you up on that beer. Did anyone get to see the
G3 tour at the Beacon?
Pete
Cheers to our fearless leaders (Andy and Andy).
Thank you both for all your efforts.
Wonderful new site. Welcome all.
Dr Wah
Did somebody say something about free beer??
Hi all,
Good to be here.Looks like this could be a real winner, here. Thanx to the
founders. You've really done an excellent job in the past.I'm sure you will
continue.
About the instument postings....maybe somewhere other than in our messages.
A list, perhaps like the serial # database.A get together sounds like a great
idea. I know Saturn(the car) at least used to have them for Saturn owners.Be
nice to see how many headless guitars and basses could be in one place at the
same time.Free beer?.....Guess I picked the wrong time to quit drinking.Oh well.
Keep up the great work.
Beatlejuice532001( Bill Payne )
Welcome to all - and again, and again, and again - THANKS to the guys that have put so much work into increasing out (and the worlds') knowledge of Steinbergers.
Thanks!!

Er..ah..How about in your profile under "members"?? Isn't that
the most logical place for that?
Just a thought.

If you would also try to minimize the sizes if possible. We've only
got 20 MB of space for all the pics we'll need to post. I often can
get a pic under 50Kb with no noticeable decrease viewability.
I will, from time to time, go through and thin the heard - optimizing
redundant or unnecessary pics and deleting those when necessary.
Let's face it, when you've seen pics of 100's of GL's, member #357's
pics of his stock, unmodified one aren't that compelling for the
collective.

On the old site, there is a place for comments. here under "members" there seems
to only be a place for personal stuff, such as age, sex, location etc. What i was
thinking was a place for "only" a list of instruments.

A & A I re-sized the photos. Every thing's cool.
Peter
maybe i'm confused but i was able to put my list of instruments in my
yahoo profile. if you click on landru64 in the member list thru this
group, you'll see it in my profile (of course, i've sold like 70% of
those bergers!)
is that what you were thinking of?

Hey Andy...What do you think about having a "pic database" of the
bass & guitar models...inclusive of the Spirits, so new members or
potential buyers of used instruments can reference it to enlighten
themselves before they buy. I would think luthiers that want to build
from scratch would also find the pics helpful. It also might save you
& others some time when people ask model identification questions.
For the luthiers, CADs also could be included with the pics. Best to
all who are & want to be headless.

Details will be on the static site, whenever we get that up. It's
designed to be a sister resource to this, and have all of the
information people would need to reference on a regular basis. As
much as you hear us chime on and on about it we are still working on
it and do have many pages finished. But with work, moderating this
group, those other things that always come up, and still trying to
keep some of our free time for actually playing. . . well, let's
just say it's been a much bigger task to become the Steinberger
historians that anyone thought.
That will be part of the big plan.

Sounds good Andy...no rush @ all...just thought it was a good
idea...& the members could assist from pics of their own instruments,
given a "template" fo the types of shots & info you need. For
example, I would be happy to do my 2 M-series guitars. Thanks, Michael
Item #1447977755 - GL7TA Elite. Seller indicated that it was pre-
Gibson.
I found that odd, as the whole Elite thing was basically a Gibson
devised marketing ploy - mostly geared for the Japanese market. The
only real differences between the Elites an a regular L were the
fancy logo and a signed certificate from Ned. On the '94 price list
I have, that ran you about $500 extra on a GL and $900 on an XL.
Emailed the seller, and he replied the serial number on this one is
8144. Around the 8400 number is when they moved to Nashville, and
all of those have the 'T' on them after that. So it's definitely
post-Gibson, but was made in the last months at Newburgh. FYI.

Hey, most of you guys have different names here. This might sound
silly, but maybe for a short duration you could include your previous
designations in your post to clarify who's who. many of the regular
contributors to the club message base had very definable points of
view
and attitudes about some of the more debatable topics that have been
kicked around. It would be nice to have a connection to your "old"
persona.
i already had emailed the guy. his (mis)information had come from ed
roman...
