I was wondering if anybody has GM-2 Newburgh guitar for sale. I've been looking
around for this guitar since a long time but can't find any. Preferable white or
black with binding, any condition but all original. S or T trem. Private mails

I have a Langley maple faceplate with a pair of Seymour Duncan '59 humbuckers
for my GL4T. I like the sound of the active EMG pickups but the Duncans give the
guitar a warmer midrange honk as compared to the hi fidelity of the EMG set. I
don't think there's anything about the GL design that calls for active pups over
passives. The GL has a lovely natural sustain that give any pickup lots to work
with.

Hey all - As time goes on, I will search the 2001 - 2009 archives here to answer
my many questions about getting back into Steinberger guitars.

But for now since time is of essence, can someone help me with info on the
difference between my 1985 Steinberger GL2T (black) that I bought new in Wichita
at a store called Profound Sound...and the new Synapse Transcale.

When I originally bought it, I was Bob Seger's guitarist and in 1986, the band
Chicago hired me and I changed the top to a white top with 2 single coils and a
rear humbucker.

That's the guitar heard on the Chicago recording of What Kind Of Man Would I Be.

I stopped using that guitar after the strings kept popping out when I did dumb
dive bombs with the whammy bar.

I am now back into Steinbergers in a big way but would like to know any details
that I should be wary of in the new models. From what I've been reading, they
are completely different as far as hardware, etc...

Thanks for any help or light you can shine on the basic differences and pros and
cons between the new and the old.

I find it ironic. Gibson, who provides mostly liberal musicians with
inspirational instruments, resorts to tactics of bribery and corruption worthy
of Richard Nixon.
At least graphite isn't covered by that Act.

Considering the amount they use, the few sources it comes from, and all the
channels they likely use to get it, it's hard for me to fathom that they were
the pawns in this. I'll grant it's possible, but given the knowledge and
resources at Gibson's disposal. . . Let's just say a well run organization
should not be in this position because of ignorance.

It's interesting to read how the change in political climate in Madagascar
likely fostered this. I can easily imagine a scenario where if a small window
of opportunity opened, it would be tempting to make a grab. Also did some other
reading on the Lacey Act, which covers not just products & raw materials but
animals as well. It was originally passed in 1900, but has been updated many
times over the years. A more recent update to the law was a change of the word
"willfully" to "knowingly". That obviously makes prosecution easier.

unbefrickeningleeevable..doubt they knew it was not sanctioned or older vintage
wood. I bought a classical guitar from Yogi Javier and had a real problem
getting it out of the Philippines, They made me play it in the airport first to
prove I was a musician  Then they said I needed a certificate since the wood
was near extinct Nara wood, real slow growing dense mahogany indigenous to that
area of the world.

Eventually it took a bribe to the Filipino customs guys to get it out of the
country, but apparently you can have such things and export them if it is
pre-dated or government sanctioned material with a certificate for export, kinda
like Ivory and other mammoth Tusk, etc.

This may prove a larger issue than expected. Around '88 I contacted Newburgh to
buy the 5 string hardware for my early XL. I was told that the only way I could
do this was to return the bass to the factory and they, and only they, would
make the swap and retain the original hardware. Obviously they didn't want
Steinberger hardware showing up on other instruments. That's one reason that
original hardware is scarce on the used market. Things may have changed later
but this was the way it was early on. Ken

Somewhere between review and list, the auction got changed. Should have been a
Buy it Now auction for 10 of them, not a standard auction for one. Will need to
cancel auction tomorrow and relist. Will post here and send you email directly
when it's ready.

Andy,

I am your sole bidder on a Boomerang, but I am new to the whole eBay thing and
do not quite know how it works. Do we have to wait until bidding is closed to
do bussiness? Will you notify me that you have accepted my bid via e-mail?

Like I said, I really don't know too much about this eBay thing. All I really
want to do is give you $170 bucks in exchange for a Boomerang.

Thanks.

attachment bolt and several other screw holes to attach to the body with wood

roughly 3/16" of an inch thick - thick enough to hold several thread turns, but
thin enough to not be too obtrusive.

Andy couldn't be any more right about this!! I have 5 GPs and I don't think
that any of the pickguards are interchangable! Different size, shape, holes
don't match and even the distance from the butt of the neck to the trem can
very. Can be very frustrating, but always entertaining.

Just a quick question for you guys:

I know that the routings for R- and S-trems are different and the trems thus not
directly interchangeable. But how different are they? Could I fairly easily mod
the routing of a Spirit (R-trem) to accept the XS-trem, or would I need to fill
the cavity before re-routing?

Cheers

Wouldn't take much to modify, especially since the pickguard covers up the
cavity anyways. If anything it's the varying sizes and holes on the pickguards

NS Design announces a new designation for the model formerly called Bass Cello.
We proudly reintroduce an instrument which, in bridging the electric bass guitar
and upright electric bass, is now, and more appropriately, named Omni Bass.

What's Omni Bass all about?

The NS Omni Bass breaks through conventional barriers by integrating both
acoustic and electric upright bass tonality and performance capabilities
(including bowing) with the familiar 34 inch bass guitar scale. When tuned in
fourths, the four and five string fretless and fretted models use identical
fingering to that of the conventional bass guitar, yet deliver dynamic new
plucked and bowed sound possibilities for the bassist seeking to extend
expressive range. In every playing application, a beautifully resonant low end
response is the essence of this remarkable bass instrument.

Some of the additional exciting features of the Omni Bass which we invite you to
explore include:
- Familiar 34" bass guitar scale
- 4 and 5 string fretless and fretted models
- The Polar™ Pickup System provides a natural sound with deep bass response and
brilliant highs. The Polar pickup has two modes of operation: arco and
pizzicato, allowing the player to control attach and decay characteristics when
plucking, or to optimize for bowed response.
- Custom designed EMG™ low impedance magnetic pickups give a smooth response
with thundering bass output and lots of sweet midrange for the quintessential
"electric" tone.
- Active controls include two balance controls for unlimited mixing options for
the magnetic and Polar Pickup systems. Onboard pre-amplification provides master
volume, bass and treble controls.
- The patented Boomerang Strap System allows the instrument to be placed in
virtually any position, vertical or transverse, and makes the Omni Bass a nearly
effortless extension of the musician's body. An End Pin Stand is also available
for fixed upright-bass-style vertical support.

For more information please visit the Omni Bass web page.

Hello,

I have 5 GP series Steinbergers, 3 are GP4Ts and all have the universal routing
under the pickguard where you could put any pickup configuration into them.
However, with the other 2 which are GP2Ts, one is a universal routing and the
other is just routed for two humbuckers. The one that is routed for the 2
humbuckers is an older model (the first year that the GPs came out) and the
second one with the universal routing is a second year model. I don't know if
this is always the case, but this is what I have on my GPs. All 5 are routed
for the battery cavity, even though all 5 where not active electronics.

Don't have one to check, but I recall the P's being routed like a Fender strat
so most pickup configs would work with no mods to the body. This wasn't done
for user ease, but for production purposes. They could assemble to order by
just popping in the appropriately pre-wired pickguards. That's why even the
passive EMG versions have a battery compartment in the body, but usually not
what some people call the "broken" cover.

Hello,
Does anyone know if the routing for a GP4T and a GP2T are the same beneath the
pick guard? I read somewhere this might be the case, but it would be helpful to
confirm. Thanks.

I was thinking in selling one of my Steins, because I can't use them... I have
one made by a luthier with the body of an "old" Spirit, a new Moses neck, S-Trem
and Emg active pick ups (HSH). The problem maybe where you live...
If you're interested, email me.
