Need some funny folk music to get you revved up for booting Dubya out of office? It's the poltico-musical event of year! Lisa Rogers and I are both releasing election-year CDs next Wednesday, June 30, at one of Austin's classic music rooms: Threadgill's World Headquarters. The show runs from 8 to 10 p.m. - of course, you can come earlier to stake out a table and have some of Threadgill's chow:
JOINT CD RELEASE
STEVE BROOKS and LISA ROGERS
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 30, 8 to 10 p.m.
THREADGILL'S WORLD HEADQUARTERS
301 West Riverside at Barton Springs Rd., 472-9304
THE CD's: My CD's titled "Bushwhacked," (apologies to Molly Ivins), and includes six new songs and one old pun. It runs the gamut from folk and swing to rock and rap. There's even a heartfelt patriotic song with an alternative vision to Bush's America.
Lisa's is "Let's Put a Folksinger in the White House" Its 28 cuts include gems like "Mad Cowboy Disease" "Let's Put Another Rich White Guy in the White House," and her international anthem, "God Bless the Planet Earth." You can learn more about Lisa and her folksinging presidential campaign at LisaForPresident.com
Fittingly enough, Lisa and her fellow Therapy Sister, Maurine McLean, back me up on several tracks of "Bushwhacked" - along with Jeffrye Glenn Tveraas, Wendy Wentworth and Oliver Steck (couldn't get Lewinsky and Tripp for this one). It includes:
Are You Better Off Now? - Recycles Ronald Reagan's classic quote from the 1980 election.
Bushwhacked - Time to whack those Bushes back.
Osama in the Autumn - Will they catch you-know-who just in time for November?
Trickle Up - Elvis does economics.
Inhale to the Chief - My O.Henry Championship pun from 2001.
Lesser of Two Evils - Lisa's the only candidate not mentioned in my first rap song. Lucky her.
America, My Dream - An anthem for progressive patriots.
That's all for now. Hope to see you at Threadgill's next Wednesday. And feel free to bring a Kerry sticker.
Peeps through Music,
Steve
