Howdy, Austin!
Last time I played here, Lance had yet to ride his first stage. While he
was touring France, I was touring Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Hawaii.
I'll be marking my homecoming this Sunday with two special appearances.
For those who have been curious about my occasional gig as itinerant
Unitarian preacher, you can hear my sermon about songwriting this Sunday
morning at the Live Oak UU, up north by Lakeline Mall. And Sunday evening
I'll co-host Austin's monthly Peace Open Mike, where you'll all invited to
perform your own songs, poems or simply a peace of your art.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 15, 10:30 a.m.
LIVE OAK UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST CHURCH
3315 El Salido Parkway, 219-9008
"For the Sake of the Song: Songwriting as a Spiritual Path": Where do songs
come from? Austin folksinger Steve Brooks explores the ties between
songwriting, meditation and prayer, as he tells the stories behind some
songs. He exposes the hidden links between Oedipus Rex and Mama Tried. And
illustrates his points with glorious song.
DIRECTIONS: From the intersection of Highways 183 and 620 Proceed west on RR
620 1.7 miles to El Salido. Turn right and go 0.3 miles to Live Oak UU
Church.
Or, from the intersection of Highways 2222 and 620 Proceed east on RR 620
4.2 miles to El Salido. Turn left and go 0.3 miles to Live Oak UU Church.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 15, 6 to 9 p.m.
AUSTIN PEACE OPEN MIKE
VENTANA DEL SOUL, 1834 E. Oltorf, 707-7447
Hosted by Steve Brooks & Tom Dasilek
(Lisa Rogers in on the road, busy running for President)
Signup 5 p.m., music starts at 6
VDS is at Oltorf & Burleson, a few blocks east of I-35 and across the street
from Whataburger. There's parking behind the building.
