New Year, Ancient Cavern - Saturday Evening - and Peace Sunday   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #168 of 325 |
My first Texas show of the New Year will be undercover - as in, under cover of a couple of hundred feet of limestone. It's time for another unplugged Longhorn Cavern show. Judging by the forecast, it may be warmer underground than it is above - but best to bring a jacket, because even a balmy 68 degrees seems to turn into a damp chill after an hour of sitting still.
Sunday evening, I'll co-host the return of the Peace Open Mike, just in time for Inauguration Day, and as always, boy, do we need it now!
By the way, if any of you are looking to unload an old refrigerator cheap, I'm in the market this week. In the meantime, if I can live out of an ice chest for 18 days every June, I can survive a few days in January.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 15, 6:00 p.m.
LONGHORN CAVERN STATE PARK, Burnet
This is the legendary underground folk concert. Check in about 5:45. Then they lead you on a short tour into the bowels of the earth, ending in a chamber with stunning acoustics. I play unplugged on a small stage at one end of the chamber. Reservations encouraged, (830)598-CAVE // 877-441-CAVE. $12 admission adults. More info and a map at www.longhorncaverns.com
Directions: Longhorn Cavern State Park is located on Park Road 4 in Burnet, Texas. You can access Park Road 4 by two different routes. You can take HWY 29 between Llano and Burnet & exit south on Park Road 4. The park will be 10 miles on your right. Or you can take HWY 281 between Burnet & Marble Falls, Texas and exit west on  Park Road 4. The park's about five miles in on your left.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 16, 6 to 9 p.m.
PEACE OPEN MIKE
Ventana del Soul, 1834 E. Oltorf, on the north side of Oltorf & Burleson.
Are you a peace worker who needs relief from the blue-state blues? Once a month, the Austin Peace Open Mic welcomes musicians, poets, activists and listeners to share a peace of their art. Every third Sunday, from 6 to 9 p.m., we gather at the Ventana del Soul coffeehouse. We’re unplugged, but we help recharge your batteries for the four long years ahead. Join hosts Lisa Rogers, Tom Darilek and Steve Brooks as we give peace our chants.
