It doesn't get much better than this. It's nice to be able to make tens of dollars a month in the music business, but it's nicer still to be recognized by your peers.
MyTexasMusic.com is an online record and book store that counts hundreds of Texas musicians as members. Out of those hundreds, I'm one of five who have been nominated for Texas Singer/Songwriter of the Year. No lesser-of-two-evils here. The other nominees include my dear friends Lu Mitchell and Ken Gaines, as well as Gary Taylor and Tommy Elskes. Being in their company is enough to make me feel like a winner.
But if you feel like voting before the close of balloting this Friday, you can go to http://www.mytexasmusic.com/awards/voting/. If you come to my next show and tell me you voted for me, you might get me to play Margaritaville. Just write it on Andrew Jackson's back.
The awards show will be Feb. 20 in Webster. More on that as it gets closer.
By the way, that next Austin-area show will be up the picturesque hamlet of Round Rock:
FRIDAY, JAN. 29, 7 to 9 p.m.
Common Grounds Coffee House
3720 Gattis School Rd. (next to Albertson's)
Round Rock, 238-1833
Peeps through Music,
