I'm back in River City, after three glorious weeks in Florida and New Orleans, and this Thursday night, I'll be returning to Austin stages. I'll be playing a rare show with a band, rockin' the Fox & Hound. This week's edition of the Purgatory Road Playboys has Seymour Guenther on bass and Chico Oropeza on lead guitar and mandolin. We'll be singing the praises of fine consumer products like duct tape and Mazola, along with an assortment of South Austin anthems, wildflower waltzes, tear-in-your-Shiner love songs and perhaps an epic pun or two.
For those of you who are wondering about the MyTexasMusic awards on Feb. 20, the news is that Singer-Songwriter of the Year went to Ken Gaines of Houston. Ken's an old friend of mine, and such a brilliant songwriter and performer that losing to him is the next best thing to winning. And all of you who hopped online to vote for me made me feel like a winner, as well. Dudes, you folk!
