It's not every day I get a gift from Dick Cheney. No, I'm not referring to a backside full of birdshot. But when the story of his hunting accident filtered through Folk Alliance, a DJ decided that with this many songwriters around, there oughta be a contest. I ain't exactly a stranger to writing topical songs on the fly, and after inspired presentations by ten songwriters, my song was chosen as the winner. Later on, I got to play it for Tom Paxton at the hotel bar. I recorded it today, and after you say a prayer for Harry Whittington, you can give a listen to "Deadeye Dick" at http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=488567
Or you can hear it live this Friday. This week, my partner in harmony at the Fox & Hound will be the lovely and talented Paula Held.
