Having problems with message search?
And now for something completely different...For you South Austinites who have lamented that I do too many shows up North, I'll be playing a house concert this Friday night in Paula Held's living room, down here in the heart of Bubbaland. And for my last Austin concert for 2006, I'll be trying something I've never done before: Steve Brooks Karaoke.
It's a little bit like a series Butch Hancock once did, where he played more than 100 different originals over several nights. The difference is that the audience will get to choose the songs. For part of the show, I'll hand out a list of somewhere between 100 and 200 songs I've written over the last 20 years, many of then songs few have ever heard, or songs that have fallen out of rotation in my live shows. Each listener will get a chance to request a song from the list. Could be an old favorite I haven't played in awhile, or something with an intriguing title, like "Watermelon Sacrifice," "Rats of Rodeo Drive" or "(No One Can Piss You Off) Like an Old Lover Can." Your choice, and please check your good taste at the door.
Opening for me will be my good friend and Austin Co-Conspirator Alton Rex. Alton has a big baritone voice, which he lends to his deeply spiritual songs about love and war, peace and family. I'm looking forward to turning y'all on to some of his music.

DIRECTIONS to 5008 LANSING DRIVE: Take Ben White Blvd (290) to the Manchaca Rd exit, go South on Manchaca to the second or third light, which is Lansing. Make a left.
