ABOUT STEVE BROOKS
Cross two famous guys named Brooks - Garth and Mel - and you get Austin folksinger Steve Brooks. He's got a song for every occasion, from the sublime to the ridiculous and back. His tunes range from comic commentary and cracker-barrel philosophy to lyrical love ballads and sharp-edged snapshots of Texas and the world. For over a year he wrote a song-a-week for Jim Hightower's Radio Show and has written for and appeared in numerous films, including the 2004 release "Barbecue: A Texas Love Story."  A master of words as well as music, he was featured on TV's "I've Got a Secret" as six-time World Pun Champion.

Praise for Steve's music
"A great unsung songwriter of Austin."
 - Slaid Cleaves
"Steve is an extraordinary Austin songwriter, ... his songs can be hysterically funny or tearfully sad." - Cyd Wright, Quillen's Coffeehouse
"Steve Brooks writes with the kind of dry wit that makes you chuckle and spit sand, yet he has the same sense of commentary and observation that made the likes of Woody Guthrie a national hero. [His] CD,
Purgatory Road, is great, can't wait to hear the next one." - Ellis Paul, Rounder recording artist, Boston
"A wordsmith of the first order." - Jimmy Lafave, Bohemia Beat recording artist, Austin
"Steve Brooks has made an important contribution to the Texas tradition of the singer-poet-musician, saying those things we think and dream about, but never get to hear expressed. His lyrics, singing and instrumental work all ring true. [His] excellent CD, "Purgatory Road" takes us all on a journey. Highly recommended." - David Amram, composer

Recorded By
Slaid Cleaves, Russell Crowe, Emily Kaitz, Kevin So

Other Accolades
Honored winner of impromptu Folk Alliance Songwriting Competition, 2006

ABOUT ALTON REX
"Alton's songs let Townes and Walter Hyatt rest easy" - Micheal Jaworek, Birchmere Music Hall, Alexandria, VA
First born son of working class parents, Alton was born into a southern culture still trying to recover from the effects of the great depression. His songwriting reflects the influences of gospel and country music on his early years, and his CD's are getting high marks from radio around the world. He writes strong melody and whimsical story songs. His lyrics will charm and haunt you much the way Mickey Newberry did. A regular performer on the main stage of the Frank Brown International Songwriter's Festival, Alton has been touring nationally for the last five years. With his third CD "LIVE at Longhorn Cavern", Alton has clearly established he's an artist with staying power. In the last few months, "LIVE" has sold into a second printing without national publicity or radio.
