Recent history reminds us that the dictator in Chile was brought down after people found a novel way to register their protest: banging pots and pans at a designated hour. I think that's what Molly Ivins had in mind, when her farewell column exhorted us to get out in the streets and start banging pots and pans. Which brings us to this Saturday's Million Musician March, commemorating the fourth anniversary of our tragic invasion of Iraq. While the eyes of the world are on Austin, and while Congress is starting to debate bringing our sons and daughters home, here's your chance to make a statement, and have a weird old Austin good time while you're doing it. The march welcomes anyone with an instrument, sign, costume, float or miscellaneous domestic noisemaker. It's what Molly would do.
Speaking of music, I'll also be playing a not-SXSW showcase Friday evening at Moe's Southwest Grill, a new burrito joint on The Drag. A great place to fuel up before a night of club-hopping, and hear some fine San Antonio songwriters like Butch Morgan, Doug Fesler and Russell Clepper. And after Saturday's march, I'll duck out of the action and head to Burnet for my annual unplugged show at Longhorn Caverns State Park. It's a Texas natural wonder, and the music won't be bad, either.
