Katy, bar the door! This Sunday morning, I'll be welcoming April Fool's Day by giving a sermon at the Wildflower Unitarian Church about...puns. "Pundamentalism" is a highbrow look at the lowest form of humor and its surprising spiritual significance. It includes everything from my world championship Pun-Off routines to the irrepressible puns of Will Shakespeare and the little-noticed pun that Jesus makes in Matthew 16. Come prepared to laugh, cry or run screaming from the room.
The night before, Paula and I will be holding forth at Austin's greatest beer joint, B.B. Rover's. If it ain't raining, look for us on the patio. And looking ahead to the next weekend, those of you up north can dance to us with a full band at the new Snuffy's in Hutto.
Speaking of puns, registration has opunned for this year's O.Henry Pun-Off, to be held Saturday, May 19 at the O.Henry Museum downtown. I'll be emceeing the event, so you won't have to worry about competing against me. Many of you have secretly or not-so-secretly longed to try your wits in this contest (Can you spell Jeffrye Tveraas?) so now's your big chance. Here's where to register:
