As the philosopher Guy Clark once put it, "What would life be without homegrown tomatoes?" This Saturday morning, you can pick up homegrown tomatoes and more, as I entertain at the Sunset Valley Farmer's Market near Jones Rd. and Brodie Lane in beautiful South Austin. You can also pick up breakfast tacos, pastries and coffee, to munch while you sit in the shade and listen. Joining me from 11:15 to 12:15 will be the Bluegrass Vato himself, Danny Santos, with a bunch of tunes we'll be taking to Switzerland in Sept. Directions and map below.
Speaking of philosophers, one of my favorites left us this week. When I was a teen, seeing my first Ingmar Bergman film was as much a rite of passage as my first car and my first beer. It was part of my discovery of the outside world, beyond my little town in Pennsylvania. I'd travel a long way to see "Wild Strawberries" or "The Seventh Seal," since there was no corner video store to rent them. Even if I didn't quite understand it, the stark, black-and-white image of the knight playing chess with death stirred up my artistic imagination, the way a Townes Van Zandt song does today. Townes said there were two kinds of music: blues and zip-a-dee-doo-dah. Ingmar Bergman was a master of the blues.
Peace through Music,
Steve
