Got a bag of Mardi Gras beads in your closet? Bring 'em on down to Wildflower Unitarian Church this Sunday morning. I'll be marking the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina by presenting a service about New Orleans. It's the city I called home before Austin, so the subject is close to my heart. The service is titled "The City That Care Forgot: Why We Need New Orleans." In keeping with the topic, it will be a multi-sensory experience. It will include classic tunes like "Iko Iko" and "Mardi Gras Mambo" and will close with a second-line parade. So bring an umbrella and throw some beads.
If you do your shopping on the weekend, Saturday morning is a great time to stop at the Downtown Farmer's Market, at Guadalupe and West 4th St. I'll be backing up Danny Santos in another of our rehearsal gigs for Europe.
