I'm writing to let you know of two public performances in town this week and next, at very different kinds of events:
This Saturday, March 15, I'll be marching and singing at the Million Musicians March for Peace. This will be the third year of the march, as only Austin can do it, and, tragically, will mark the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. March starts at noon at the South Gate of the State Capitol, at 11th and Congress, and wends its way through downtown's entertainment districts to City Hall, where a rally will start at 1:30. If you stick around the rally, you can hear my Molly
Ivins song. More info at www.instrumentsforpeace.org.

Speaking of Molly, I invite you to bring some pots and pans or other kitchen percussion to the march. There will be a pots & pans brigade, courtesy of the "Raise Hell for Molly Ivins" campaign. They're carrying out Molly's last wish - in final column, she encouraged people to take to the streets, banging pots and pans, until we bring our troops home. I'll also have a banner for the campaign, and am trying to recruit a couple of folks to carry it proudly through the streets of Austin. Of course, if you play a non-percussion instrument, it's great to bring that, as well. Last year, Bill Oliver brought a PA in a shopping cart, and we awakened the bleary-eyed masses on Sixth Street.
The following Thursday, March 20, I'll join my friends Edge City, Butch Morgan and Therapy Sister Lisa Rogers for the 3rd Coast Music Songwriter Showcase, sponsored by 3rd Coast Music magazine. We'll be sharing the hilarity from 8 to 10 p.m. at Austin Java Co., by 12th and North Lamar.
