If you were thinking of heading up to Longhorn Caverns this Saturday, I'm afraid my show there has been cancelled, due to a shortfall in reservations. That's showbiz, especially in a recession.
I'll put in a plug for a local show that I'll be attending instead. Lisa Markely and Bruce Ballmer are a pair of Dallas songwriters who share smoky, jazzy melodies with literary lyrics and Bruce's fiery guitar work. My favorite song of Lisa's is inspired by "Candide." Bruce tours as a sideman with the legendary Jack Hardy. Of course, I know 'em both from the Kerrville Folk Fest. If I'm not playing myself, the next best thing is to hear them together. You can listen to a few of their songs at http://www.myspace.com/markleyandbalmer. Contact info below for reservations and directions.
Next week, it will be two days in the studio with Chris Gage (Did I mention, you can pre-order the CD by clicking here). Then, it's off to a whirlwind tour in New Mexico. My next Austin-area gigs will be Tuesday Happy Hours at Mesa Ranch, Oct. 14 and 28.
