Three more days in the studio the past two weeks, and we're closing in on the finish line. I finished my vocals (thanks to Brenda Freed for some great vocal coaching), and Chris has been steadily adding instrumental overdubs. Jeff Tveraas stopped in to sing some harmony parts on "One Good Year," "The Other Shoe" and "One More Shot of Whiskey." What a amazing year! It gives new meaning to Charles Dickens' classic line about the best of times and worst of times. For me, personally, it's been great to get back out on the road, to be putting out a real studio CD and helping to run my local Unitarian church. For our nation, well, I was one of the millions who cried tears on Election night, tears of sorrow for how we got here and tears of joy for a new beginning. I hope we can all contribute to the American Phoenix that will rise from the ashes of the last eight years.
My last gig of the year will be Tuesday, on the eve of Xmas Eve. I'll be singing The Grinch and other alterative Christmas favorites, along with the best in South Austin folk. Then it's off to hit a few more parties, catch the 37th Street lights and fry a turkey for Xmas dinner.
Hoppy Holidays,
Steve
