I kicked off the New Year with two more days in the studio. More overdubs from Chris, and harmony vocals on four songs from Paula Held. And Tom Pittman of the Austin Lounge Lizards dropped in to lay down banjo on "One More Shot of Whiskey." We're shooting to have the album mixed by the end of the month. If one of your New Years' resolutions is to support Austin music, you can stay on track by clicking here to pre-order.

You can hear many of the songs from the new record at my next couple of gigs. Mesa Ranch may be yanking music from its weekday happy hours, so this Thursday might be your last chance to check South Austin music mixed with deep-fried nopalitos. Later this month, you can mark your calendars for my first Austin house concert in years, at Webb House Concerts near William Cannon and Emerald Forest. They're one of the few local concert series that features South Austin artists rather than touring folkies, in an atmosphere that's a lot more listener-friendly than Artz or Threadgill's. Details below.

Or she had me, as John Lennon might say. I think of it as my personal Christmas story. She was found wandering stray in a field, a fuzzy little piece of coyote bait. Now she's wandering in my living room and backyard, chowing down on unspeakable objects and expressing her opinions on my music. Every dog's a critic. Or every critic's a dog, I can't remember which. Because she's a tough broad, and because she delights in afflicting the comfortable, I named her Molly, after our late, great Molly Ivins. Alright, now for the collective AWWWWW...
