Is this interview verbatim? I am shocked. Did
Steve Perry really insult Steve Augeri like that?
Here's my arguments if he did:
1. Steve may have been "fired" in one sense, but I
think he quit as well. To me it is like someone
deserts his or her spouse, then the other one files
for divorce, and the deserter cries his or her wife is
divorcing him or her. What did you expect to happen?
Of course I think Neal and company would have him out
and find someone else. Steve Perry may not have quit,
but he did everything to indicate he did quit. No
tour? Was there not going to be another record as
well?
2. I have said it in the past, and I will say it
again. The 5 men in Journey now have a right to make
a living. No one should think of Journey as an icon
that was only perfect until 1996.
3. Steve Augeri was very nice on VH1 when he talked
about Steve. Why was he rewarded that way if it was?
4. I hear Journey has offically said that if Steve
wanted to do several numbers with them
anytime/anywhere that he could. That is gracious even
though they are not obligated.
5. The most basic thought I have is that Steve Augeri
has feelings like any other human. If Steve Perry
really said that, is there a chance that it would hurt
his feelings? Imagine if someone told you you were
ugly, substandard, unworthy, or anything that would
degrade you. How would you feel?
Yes, I love Steve Perry's music and singing.
However, I honestly do want Journey to continue the
way it is with Steve Augeri. He appears to be nice
and wanting to do what he does best... perform for his
fans.
