Last year ...
a handful of 24-7Prayer activists gathered in Langley, BC for a great weekend
together (read the report HERE).  We shared stories of 'God on the move' in
our communities, ate lots of food, experienced some significant worship
together, laughed, prayed, and basically built relationships together as we
dreamed and planned for more prayer in the lower mainland.
 
This year ...
we are going to do it again - but with twice the fun!  Not only are we gathering
again in Vancouver, but we thought we'd let Ontario and Quebec in on it all
with a one day gathering at the University of Toronto.

Hey what's up guyz... this is Shana and I love you all.

I want to say first and foremost thank you so much for your
faithfulness and support over the years.  From the early days of the
Life Zone club in Toronto, to the underground scene in Ontario, to
Cornerstone Festival, to outreach events by Illumination, Club
Worship, The Palace Cincinnati, Shine, Planet Jesus, Unified Soul,
Found Ontario, and more promoters and events than we can list, with
more artists and DJs than we could ever name here!  You have been
with us through it all.  You have shown your support by your emails
and by coming to the events and by reading our emails and by praying
for us.

The scene has grown from its humble beginnings several years ago when
events were scarce and hidden in the underground to a thriving
independent scene.  Once people's jaws dropped to hear these events
took place, had never heard of  Christian dance music, and gave us
blank stares when we mentioned the words 'God' and 'nightclub' in the
same sentence.  Now artists and DJs are emerging from every corner of
the USA, Canada and the world and are getting noticed.  Events and
clubs geared toward outreach are appearing all over the USA and
Canada and the worldwide scene is becoming one, linking together as
artists, DJs, promoters, ministers, volunteers and media come
together for a common purpose... to share the light of God's Love in
the dance culture.

As the scene has grown we have decided the events listings in
StreetBeatz are becoming redundant and there is no longer a need to
promote the events taking place through StreetBeatz anymore.  We have
decided to turn the focus of StreetBeatz to the activities in the
heart of Toronto where Shana Gray (me!), Brandon Savard, Steve Crabb,
Stacey Gray, and all those people involved with us, are working to
make a difference locally and internationally through events and
music.  For all other events listings we now recommend that people
check the listings at Tastyfresh (here's the link
http://www.tastyfresh.com/forums/default.asp?forumID=6 ) and we also
recommend that you check out the community there as it's a great
place to meet people.

Locally the events taking place downtown Toronto are 'The Revolution'
at Club 160 (above Metropolis Records, 160 Spadina, at the corner of
Spadina & Queen).  The first event opened June 27th organized by
Brandon Savard.  With only 4 days of promotion the club was packed
with people coming in and out from the street, artists improvising
over dance beats, singing, rapping and emceeing and we saw many
styles of music blend in a way we had never experienced before.
People were singing in the club and on the dance floor lifting up the
name of Jesus.  New relationships were formed and a new movement
began as The Revolution's first night, as a glowing ember, took its
place in the heart of the city.  The next event will take place on
September 5th at Club 160, and every two weeks following on Thursday
nights.  We hope to see many of you there!

We are also seeing a new artist culture form through the events at
The Revolution and the  numerous young adults meetings taking place
throughout Toronto.  You will be hearing of some new music releases
in the coming months!

Sorry it took so long, but with all the stuff that was going on with throwing a
NYC event, we couldn't do both. Now that that is over, we have a lot lined up

Because of the problems with the locals in Montville and forcing us to shut down
by midnight, we've been looking for alternative locations.  This is our first
event at this Willimantic location, and we hope it works out great. One of the
advantages is that we can go all night!

We're bringing back from PA, two of our past guest DJs, Prism and 7:20 both were
fabulous crowd pleasers that really know how to get the floor moving!

UPCOMING MEETING IN TORONTO, CANADA

Following is the invitation to our meeting.  If you are a DJ, pastor,
promoter, artist, producer, media person, or interested in evangelism and
outreach to the dance culture, you should seriously consider attending and
joining in with DM4C.  There is an unprecented revival in Toronto among
young adults.  In the last couple of years, several young adults churches
have appeared across Toronto, and attendance is numbering in the thousands.
God is calling us all to use our gifts to bring in His Kingdom.  It is our
goal to unite as Christians and take our city for God, by His Spirit, using
our music, events, creative outreach, friendship evangelism, discipleship,
and whatever tools and opportunities He puts in our hands.  This is a move
of God and we want to be a part of it.

This is the first DM4C meeting ever.  We want to build a strong core team in
Toronto and a solid network throughout the DM4C area, and touch our world
for Christ.  This is the beginning of a new underground revolution.

Just want to give shouts out to all my friends in StreetBeatz!!!!!

For those of you new to the list, let me give you a quick history.
StreetBeatz webzine and events mailing list was created about three years
ago in southern Ontario to bring together Christians in the underground
dance culture, and to raise awareness about the new scene that was starting
to form... DJs and promoters began to work together in different cities to
throw events with the goal to reach out to ravers and the club crowd... the
idea was to throw drug free parties with positive atmospheres where people
could come together and enjoy themselves, listening to the music they loved,
without the worldly mentality of clubs and raves... without the alcohol and
drug abuse, "the meat market" mentality, and violence in the secular
scene... Christians wanted to reach out with the lifechanging power that had
transformed their own lives, stemming from their faith in God... and to make
an impact on the rave and club scenes locally...

It was not long until StreetBeatz grew to include the northeastern USA and
central Canada.

Recently Steve Crabb and Stacey Gray have come on board StreetBeatz...
Stacey is my sister and Steve is an underground DJ from PA, about an hour
from New York City.  They have already stepped up the pace of StreetBeatz
and are about to take it up to the next level... from now on you will mostly
hear from Stacey and Steve, but I will still be here and you can reach me at

Hey Everyone.....Steve here,

I just wanted to offically introduce myself and welcome the newest
members to our mailing list.  We have a lot of ideas for what we're
going to do with Streetbeatz soon, and the main one is to
completely overhaul the site (http://streetbeatz.net), and add a bunch of
interesting new features.

Stacey and I plan on turning StreetBeatz into a full-fledged
web-zine. Some changes to the existing format may include a lot
more in the way of interviews and pictorials, as well as posting
articles written by both Streetbeatz staff and those members who are willing
to submit creative material to us.  We'd like to seriously increase the
awareness of who we have working with us in the scene and what we can do to
help.

We're also going to continue to step up the event and party updates
including everything from house parties and club nights to full out
raves.  The Christian scene in the Northeast/Central Atlantic
United States and Ontario is still extremely small, but its starting to
grow quickly. Organization is needed to get things moving in the
right direction.

We have a large group of talented djs and producers working in the
area, as well as promoters, club owners, radio personalities, and
sound/lighting techs.  The majority of these people are represented
in one way or another through Streetbeatz.  Given some time,
prayer, and hard work, this scene is going to seriously blow up.
The opportunities for outreach are already countless.

Many people can feel that the Lord is moving strongly in the
clubs and raves right now, and most of you out there are on the
front lines.  I'd like to offer the support of the staff at the new
Streetbeatz ezine in any way that we can.  If you have any
questions, comments, ideas for what you'd like to see on StreetBeatz, or
prayer requests, feel free to contact us at anytime. Shana will still be
kicking around and providing guidance and input to us as we seek God in
taking StreetBeatz up a level content-wise and professionally.
