Snakebite and Black is a (lager) beer and cider "cocktail". And I do believe it is largely a British thing. In the US "Black" more often than not refers to Johnny Walker Black Label scotch whiskey. Hence Zakk Wylde's "Black Label Society". More in detail here, as there are various recipes for it:
Az for Independence Day - for me, it's right up there with the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and Santa Clause these days.
The good thing about it is the fireworks, which make us all oooh and ahhh in rapt childish wonder, no matter what our ages...and forget for a little while that the states have no budgets; schools, state offices, and libraries are being closed; unemployment is at an all-time high in many places, and consequently, we have a shrinking tax base.
What "should be" the richest state" in the nation is bankrupt and paying their bills with IOU's.
The good news is: we now have 24 hour gambling in Colorado and $100 limits on bets. And, as of last year at this time, we can buy liquor on Sundays. Very progressive!
Let's not bring up the National Deficit.
But, we shall make the best of things and party like always :)

Please tell me, I've been wondering - what is Snakebite and Black? Obviously some sort of alcoholic drink, but not one I'm familiar with.
