The Swingera Yahoo! Group serves 450 big band fans around the world, including those who visit
Tuxedo Junction, our big band web site, and
The Palomar, our member-driven, interactive big band broadcast blog we launched in July 2007.
(Photo) Benny Goodman and His Orchestra launched the Swing Era on August 21, 1935 at the Palomar Ballroom in Los Angeles.
Members of this Group range from people who are just discovering this wonderful music to those who lived through the 1930s and 1940s and enjoyed the big bands that criss-crossed America. Their wonderful music was broadcast live every night from ballrooms, night clubs, movie theaters, and concerts halls. Juke boxes featuring the hits of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey, Jimmie Lunceford, Cab Calloway, and many others were played nonstop in soda fountains, diners, and bars from coast to coast.
At the end of each message sent to our group, I suggest a member include:
1. First and last names
2. City, state or province, and country (if you live outside the United States)
3. Email address (which makes it easy for other members to contact you)
Any questions, comments, suggestions? Please email me.
Welcome to the Swing Era Yahoo! Group!
