Three Rivers Community Band Festival, Festival Band accepting
applications until Feb. 15th.

The sixth annual Three Rivers Band Festival will be held on Saturday,
May 2, 2009, at Upper St. Clair High School. Four area community
bands will perform, as well as a Festival Band comprised of community
players from the region.

We invite community players to apply for the Festival Band.
Applications will be accepted until February 15, 2009.

Our goal is for the Festival Band to be comprised of members from as
many community bands as possible. Our guest conductor will be
Elisabeth Heath-Charles, Musical Director and Conductor of the Butler
County Symphony Orchestra.

Some details:
There will be morning rehearsal and then the band will play selections
that afternoon during the Festival. We are asking area musicians from
community bands to send in a registration form by February 15,2009 and
we will notify musicians by March 1st of their placement within the
band. We are planning for a full, balanced symphonic band that
represents as many community bands as possible which means that the
size of each section will be limited. Our hope is to not have to turn
anyone away, but this may be necessary for balance. There will be a
small fee ($15) to cover rehearsal and lunch expense. If we have to
turn away due to space, we will return the registration fee. We hope
you will consider attending the festival regardless of being in the
festival band.

The 2009 Sousa National Community Band - July 10-12, 2009
New Orleans, Louisiana

Join us in "The Big Easy" for the inaugural Sousa National Community
Band. New Orleans is making remarkable progress in re-building and you
can do your part by bringing your talent and your tourist dollars to
one of the great historic cities of the United States. Come join a
world-class conductor and talented musicians from around the country
for a great weekend of music making. The band will be conducted by
Colonel John R. Bourgeois, USMC (Ret.), former director of the United
States Marine Band, "The President's Own."

The Sousa National Community Band registration fee is $60.00.

14 bands in our region have been profiled in our newsletter, that is
roughly half of our groups. We would like to profile the rest in
future newsletters. If your band has not yet been profiled and would

New Music Corner
Are there any new pieces your group has played that think others would
be interested in. Please let us know and we will start including the
