Hi -- I'm upright bass player Jason Hollar and would love to start a community
jazz band in the Greensburg area.
Unlike a traditional big band that has written out parts and stock arrangements,
I'd like to develop a loose, bebop, blues, & swing style combo with musicians
young and old alike.
I'd like for this to be a casual meeting, maybe once or twice a month, where we
can bring together students & teachers along with amateurs & professionals to
collaborate and share their love and interest in jazz.
I'd also like it to be a very low-pressure situation so no one feels obligated
to commit to strict rehearsal & performance schedules, etc.
I have some great local musicians on board already and we're looking for more!
Also in search of a venue where we can gather and play.
I'd eventually like to find a restaurant or bar that would be interested in
hosting our group on an "off" night (maybe Sundays?) so we could order food &
drinks, invite friends & family, etc., but initially, it might be best to find a
private space (preferably with a piano) where we can get our act together!
My purpose in this project is to A) create a collaborative group of local jazz
musicians who might not already know one another
B) create a network of pro-minded players for gigs & performances
C) develop a stronger local jazz scene and foster a deeper appreciation of jazz
in our area.
Please contact me with any thoughts, ideas, or questions -- or just to introduce
yourself!
