The Sacred Fire:
Music of Hildegard Von Bingen
Heather Lee, with Kim Cunio and readings by Stephanie Dowrick and James
Coates
Celebrating a new disk of this music out through ABC Classics
Stone Gallery on oxford
(Paddington Uniting Church) 395 Oxford St, Paddington
Hildegard of Bingen was an undoubted visionary. She had transcendental
experiences throughout her life which informed her worship and her sense of
the world. In the medieval world, it was a possible to have a direct link
with the angels and the holy spirit; and it is this sense of wonder that The
Sacred Fire is concerned with. Hildegard¹s music is glorious in the true
sense of the word; her writings are inspirational yet they show that there
is still a woman who lived as we all do, in the world.
Heather Lee and Kim Cunio are two of Australia¹s foremost exponents of
sacred music. Their combined repertoire spans the last 2000 years across
most of the world. Stephanie Dowrick is a contemporary woman of vision,
known for her writing, speaking and spiritual ministry, and James Coates is
an actor who has spent years reading sacred texts including the Tibetan Book
of the Dead, and Persian mystical poetry.
