Dear all
Please see below, press release for the Cafe's concert and workshop
in Moss Vale.
--------------------------------------------------------------
When the Café of the Gate of Salvation choir takes to the stage, ears
ring, hearts sing, and joy explodes from the irresistible sounds of
this more-than-30-voices choir.
Founded in Glebe in 1986 by composer, singer and arranger Tony
Backhouse, the Café of the Gate of Salvation is an a cappella choir
with a dazzling repertoire of traditional African American
spirituals, vocal hijinks from the quartet tradition of the 1940s,
contemporary gospel and original songs penned by choir members.
With sacred music from the African-American gospel and spiritual
tradition, and original compositions, the choir’s sound is an
exhilarating mix. Rock, pop, funk, R&B and calypso rhythms have also
found their way into the gospel genre. It shoots from the heart its
message of love, joy and hope.
On Saturday 1st November, the choir will be performing at the
Chevalier College’s impressive auditorium in Moss Vale. Earlier this
year they performed to a packed and enthusiastic crowd in the
Kangaroo Valley and can’t wait to revisit the magnificent Southern
Highlands in spring. They will also be holding a workshop in the
afternoon of the same day. They welcome people of all ages and
experience and will be teaching some good old gospel tunes in 4-part
harmony!
