>Hi There!
>
>Denmark Festival of Voice 2005 - Invitations to Apply
>
>Our 3rd Festival of Voice will be held on the long Foundation Day
Weekend between 3rd and 5th of June 2005. It will comprise three nights and
two days of concerts and workshops celebrating of that amazing instrument we
call the human voice. The last two years have been a phenomenal success and
the festival is now established as a significant event for anyone who loves
voice in artistic performance.
>
>
>The Denmark Festival of Voice is a great opportunity for the singing
fraternity of Western Australia. Groups of singers can get to perform to
receptive audiences, attend a wide range of workshops and have a great time
over the long weekend. It is an excellent opportunity for your group to
enhance their skills and also to experience what is happening in the greater
world of voice. Lovers of spoken word, of poetry, storytelling, comedy etc
can all come and enjoy themselves.
>
>This letter is and invitation to apply for the 2005 Festival. Enclosed
with this letter is an expression of interest form that you should fill in
and return to us no later than 15th February 2005. There are three levels at
which groups can perform at this event.
>
> a.. Free Performers. Fortunately many groups are happy to perform for
the fun of it. Without this component we would not be able to run the
festival. It's a great way of supporting us in the effort we put into
providing a good weekend.
> b.. Profit Share Performers. We budget the festival to run at a
profit after we have paid all our expenses. Profits are reliant on the
numbers of festival attendees. Any profit that we do make will be shared
amongst these performers. In 2003 we ran at a profit and managed to share it
around. In 2004 there were fewer than anticipated attendees and there was no
profit to share around. We believe that we have learnt from these errors and
will run again at a profit in 2005.
> c.. Fully Paid Acts. This is the top level. You state the fee that
you wish to receive for your performances/workshops and we evaluate whether
we can afford you. The funds that we have are limited and we have an
extremely limited budget for this category. We like to provide some top
headline performers who can also hold some excellent workshops and give the
groups exposure to talented musicians.
>Workshop performers and directors of groups larger than 12 performers
will get free weekend passes as will fully paid acts. All other performers
must purchase a weekend pass for the event at the special performers' rate.
This is how we fund the festival. Partner and family tickets will be at full
price. The weekend pass gives access to all concerts and workshops over the
weekend.
>
>We have sent you this letter as part of a mailing list of groups in WA
who may be interested in attending. Please spread the word around. If you
hear of anyone else who is interested, please let us know.
>
>Don't forget that any member of the public may also attend the festival.
We hold the festival in winter when it's easy to find accommodation,
although you do need to book in advance for the weekend. Contact our Visitor
Center for a list of the options which are available It's a great way to
spend a wintry weekend in Denmark and enjoy our beautiful part of the
country.

Dear all

Choralation is a community a cappella choir that hosts innovative festivals
and concerts such as Moorambilla. We love to have fun and sing challenging
pieces at the same time. Our musical director, Michelle Leonard, is a
talented and well respected conductor of both choirs and orchestras (and
long time conductor of Sydney Children's Choir).

We are in need of new members currently, especially tenors (so what's new!).
If you are interested in joining our choir, contact me on
mggrove@... or the phone numbers below, or simply turn up to
Abbotsford Public School music room at the bottom of the school off
Blackwall Point Road on any Wed at 7.15 p.m. during school terms.

No audition is necessary - we only ask that you can hold a tune and
harmonise.

Hi all, [sorry for any cross-postings]

I'm writing to let you know about a participative one-off gig in Paddington
on Saturday 18th December. All welcome!

I'm hoping that you'd like to join in some a cappella singing to help a
group called Fair Wear put pressure on boutique clothing stores that use
women's badly paid labour in appalling conditions to make themselves rich.
Fair Wear's blurb is reproduced below.

The singing consists of parodied christmas carols that satirise the
exploitative garment industry. At last year's Fair Wear event I assembled a
group of singers and to our profound joy about a dozen protesting
outworkers - all women from Asian backgrounds - joined in and sang with us.
It was really very moving indeed!

If you wan't to be in it this year, or want to help out by adapting the
carols for Australian conditions [the ones we've been using originated in
Canada] then please reply to me and I'll send you the words, including any
redrafts we come up with.

A lady named Dez Karlson is the main organiser of the event and her email
follows. Please feel free to spread the word!

Miguel Heatwole
______________

ACTION ALERT

How many outworkers will sweat it out in the heat in the lead up to
Christmas making the clothes we wear? Fair Wear has found up-market labels
being made by outworkers in Sydney in the lead up to Christmas 2004. Come
protest those stores who refuse to sign the code to get active in fighting
the exploitation of outworkers in the clothing industry!

Fair Wear NSW has called a Christmas action to be held outside Satch, on
Oxford St Paddington: Saturday the 18th of December 2004.

Satch and other boutique retailers refuse to sign the Homeworkers Code of
Practice and so have been targeted for protest by the Fair Wear campaign.

Come sing some No Sweatshop Christmas Carols with us and lets see a better
deal for outworkers this Christmas!

Where: Oxford St Paddington opposite the Paddington Markets. We will be
located outside the Satch store located at 390 Oxford St.

When: 12 noon 1pm Saturday 18th December during the Paddington Markets day.

How to get there: From Central catch the 378 bus up Oxford St to Paddington
Church. From Circular Quay catch the 380 bus. Get off at the markets and
look for the No Sweatshop Banner!

Hi all,

I'm looking for new male voices (tenor/baritone/bass) to join a
long-standing choir - 'I Sing On The Cake'.

It's been going about 8 years. Last year the group did quite a few
performances, including 2 major concerts in Sydney with The Sydney
Chamber Choir and other choirs and soloists, and a gig in melbourne for
The Boite. We raised $8000 for good causes.

This year there are many plans already, but I need more male voices due
to several leaving late in 2004.

We sing everything from Bacharach to Bach (well, Vivaldi really) and
it's quite a social group (drinks at pub after practice, weekends in
Blue Mountains).

Please give me a call 9665 8054 or reply by email if you'd like to join
us.

Rehearsals are Thursdays 7.30pm in Randwick.

Cheers.

Hi.

I'm doing a gig at Wine Banc next week (in the city, next to Martin
Place on Castlereagh I think) on Friday Feb 4 from 8pm-ish to 11pm-ish.

It will be :

The Heavenly Lights (our acappella gospel quartet) plus :
Peter Dasent (FAB pianist) with Tony Backhouse
A String Quartet (4 members of the Sydney Chamber Orchestra) playing a
few Tangos
Me solo (with the String Quartet and Peter Dasent on accordion)
plus The Heavenly Lights with Tony playing lovely bluesy guitar (this is
great)

Should be a fantastic night, lots a of variety - and I believe there
will be only a modest cover charge (although drinks are very dear at
Wine Banc).

I hope you can make it - maybe they'll even give us another gig !

Stuart

Dear all

Choralation is currently recruiting singers of all voice types, but
especially tenors. No audition is necessary. For those who don't know us, we
are a community choir that rehearses at Abbotsford on Wednesday nights, sing
a broad range of a cappella songs and love to have fun. We also host special
events such as Moorambilla, an annual choral celebration of locally composed
pieces specially commissioned for the event. These events are the vision of
Michelle, our wonderful musical director who is a professional conductor
with a huge range of experience with both choirs and orchestras. Contact me
on 0414 773 714 or mggrove@... for further details, or forward
this email onto anyone who may be interested.

Regards
Margaret Grove

Dear Friends

The Rainbow choir at the UNSW permaculture Garden would like to have a go
at singing 'There is a season - turn turn turn' etc... because its
appropriate for the garden and because yes, really we are just a bunch of
(delightful) old hippies.
Does anyone have an acappella arrangement/ music sheet for this Pete
Seeger/Nina Simone number and would like to share it with us?

Peace and love

ROC (Rachel's Other Choir) - directed by Rachel Hoare (ex-Arramaieda)

This choir rarely performs so this is a great opportunity to hear them
on Saturday 12th March.
Also performing are Janet McKay, classical flautist, playing old
standards such as Bach, but also modern pieces from Ibert and Fisher.
Then hear The Duffy's, who have been described as Celtic troubadours,
and will also appear at the up-coming Blue Mountains Folk Festival.

The concert is a fundraiser for International Volunteers for Peace. It
is part of a whole weekend of music, Aboriginal Dreamtime stories, food
and accommodation. Find out more from the International Volunteers
for Peace website: www.ivp.org.au, or phone IVP: 02 9699 1129.

There are a limited number of tickets at $15 for the concert only.
