Hello everybody,
For those of you in the New York area... I'm putting together a
theatre piece which will require a live band of c64's, ataris, and
gameboys. I am looking for one or two people who would be able to
play the music live with me. The show is going up in Brooklyn at the
end of March. Rehearsals would begin 6 week prior. Before I start
asking people who have no experience with synthcart/cynthcart I
thought I'd see if anybody would be interested on this list. Email me
and I'll give you more information. I would really love to work with
somebody who would help with ideas and possible composition elements
as well, though I have working versions of the songs already recorded.
Also, there is a fair amount of video of old NES games, hacked games.
If anybody has some tips for people who are great with video/
projection, especially creating hybrid version of games then let me
know.
Thanks everybody!

You can visit my website for a sample of one of the tracks for the
play. Just go to PLAYS --> THE DUDLEYS!
Here's a synopsis of the play:
The Dudleys! takes the drama of a grieving family and translates it
into the world of an old malfunctioning NES video game. Washing
dishes, fighting with your sister, going to a funeral are all stages
in The Dudleys. It’s a game of real life. Vic, the oldest son, must
play the game that is his family despite the lack of an instruction
manual or even assurances that The Dudleys! is, in fact, winnable.

It's really great for live shows, once we played a show with 2 x atari
synthcart setups and 2 x older TVs on stage - it all looked quite
neat. :)

Atari 2600 sounds on myspace
I can't get enough of this glorious vintage instrument, and I just
now
discovered the hidden easter egg for the Synthcart. Nothing says
bloop-beep-buzz like a 2600 and I can't put the controllers down.
Check out the site myspace.com/armyof2600 for some of my tracks.

Hey Gang
Started a new chip blog:
http://truechiptilldeath.com/
So consider this a call for submissions. I am looking to create a kind
of news source for new software and hardware, and showcase the best of
the best of chip music, visuals, and whatever. Things you guys can do:
Submit:
1. Software and hardware tools updates
2. Music and Video releases.
I won't publish every release forwarded to me, but I will post stuff i
think is cool. Eventually I may have a separate feed for the FLOOD,
but I want this to be a good guide for the neophyte to find the true
heart of the bit scene.
Write:
1. Reviews of releases and guides to shows. Nicer than a tip, and a
good way to make sure stuff that is important to you gets covered.
2. Tutorials
3. Random Commentary
4. Reviews of software and tools
Spread:
1. Post a link to the site on your random pages
2. Add it to your rss news feeds
3. Tattoo the site name on your forehead.
Any suggestions, comments, or whatever is welcomed. Thanks for your time.

Thank you both for your quick responses.
The sound is fine for me, as I would expect, with no tuning problems.
I will try it on another TV and see if I can track down a second VCS
for testing. I've got a feeling there might be one of the later
lightweight model 2600s in a box at a dark recess of my mum's house.
Thanks again. I'll keep on at it...

Usually the screen just rolls if it's an NTSC cart, and it's my
understanding that most PAL TVs will sync to an NTSC signal anyway.
I've seen a few Ataris that had some minor problems that only showed up
when running something demanding video-wise like the text display for
the Synthcart. The text is done by mixing two frames of video, and if
something's out of whack at all, it can be exaggerated with this video
display method. I would suggest trying it on a different TV, and even
better, a different Atari if possible.

I've been having a problem with Synthcart since I got it last month.
The screen picture is very distorted, with the text almost
unreadable. There are grey articles all over the screen, and the
letters pulse around a couple of times every second.
I've taken a photograph of the screen here:
http://inactivex.bp6.com/synthcart_screen.jpg
I've contacted AtariAge about it, and they can offer no assistance
other than to replace the cartridge. I'm reluctant to send it back as
I live in the United Kingdom, but I will do if all else fails. And so
I am posting here!
It's a PAL copy of Synthcart, running on the old six-switch VCS
model, also PAL. I have about 20 games cartridges which work fine -
this is the only cartridge that exhibits the problem.
Synthcart sounds brilliant, but I'd love to have it looking as good
as it sounds!
Thanks for reading.
thanks for the link. i was able to buy another one with no problems.
seems as though its back up and running. now i'll have to try and find
another flashback2. i could get one on ebay but the other to i used to
have were easy finds at the thrift store. anyone heard any news on the
flashback3 lately? i hope its still on the way.

yeah, that's definitely a Synthcart beat on that BMSR song. How cool.
The Atariage store should be back online soon. Email me if you need one
ASAP.
I've heard you can mod the C64 to run off a smaller power supply. Not
sure if this is true though, I'm going to look into it. Also there are
some guys on Lemon64 trying to design a new smaller and more reliable
power supply for the C64 and disk drives.

ya, i really just want to use the cynthcart as a stand alone
instrument. it hadnt occurred to me that it would need a ps2 keyboard.
i would want the keyboard to be quite a bit smaller than that, and
that would be a considerable amount of hardware modding. i think i'll
just have to keep this one on the back burner for a while until i have
a better understanding of how these mods work.
by the way, i tried running synthcart on an atari flashback 2 a few
months ago. it had a few issues but i think they were all related to
the crappy keyboard i built. while trying to figure out where the
problem was, i think i may have accidentally reversed the cart in the
slot. since then it hasnt been working at all. i really need to buy
another cart. are you still selling those paul? i love the atari
synthcart! i think i heard one of the beats on a Black Moth Super
Rainbow song on myspace.

I haven't tried it or talked to anyone who has, but I think it most
likely would work. It doesn't do anything unusual programming-wise.
For other portable options, it sounds really good on the VICE emulator,
and VICE supports two SIDs as well.

hi everyone. i was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to run
cynthcart on a c64 dtv. i recently found one at the thrift store and
couldnt pass it up. i've heard that people have modded their dtv's in
to working commodore 64s, and have been able to run programs on them.
from what i understand, there is no filtering capability though. i
figure if i can just get the program on to the dtv, i can just build
my own analog filter. ive already checked out the c64 dtv wiki, but
i'm just wondering if anybody has had any success with the cynthcart,
or if it is even possible. i would love to use cynthcart without
having to haul around a c64 and that godforsaken power brick. let me
know if you have any insight. -tanner
you could drive a car over a cartridge.
