Yup still alive.  Saw Taarka at Jupiter in Berkeley and they were awesome!

Sometimes there's Taarka talk at ThaMuseMeant's Frogville Planet Thoughtswap board too.

Finally, I got to catch up with Taarka again, earlier this evening -
this time in full band swing, in the Alberta St. Pub, and they lit the
place on fire! Who else was there?

By any chance, are there some tapers on this list? Anyone who might
have recorded Taarka when they played the recent slew of shows in
Portland? The first time my wife and I saw them was performing in the
Market as a duo, and we've been hooked ever since? We are moving to
Portland within the month (yay!), although of course the group no
longer lives there, and we won't get to be neighbors! As an avid
taper myself, I hope I won't have to wait a long time for the next
opportunity to see them play!

Cheers,

J.

Cool! Thanks for the heads up! I like how on the cdaby site you can
listen to almost two minutes of each song, not just 30 second clips...
I will help get the word out.

We just had a great time in the Southwest and thank all of you down there
for coming out to the shows!
As you know, Jarrod Kaplan's last show with TAARKA was at the Oregon
Country Fair. We've been continuing TAARKA with a temporary line-up
with Paul Evans, percussionist and great saxophonist, and the the
excellent Damian Erskine on bass. We thank you for supporting us
throughout this tranisitional time. The percussionists and drummers
performing with us this fall are some of our favorites in the
Northwest, and we are very excited to bring you our music with these
skilled musicians on the beat, as well as Jason Flores, our longtime
bass player, or Damian Erskine. We're proud to welcome Dale Largent,
a great percussionist from Bend, OR. He's well-schooled in African
and Latin percussion, and a joy to play and hang with. We're really
looking forward to our Halloween show where we'll bring Dale together
with the legendary Portland drummer/percussionist, Reinhardt Melz for
the the spookiest booty shakin' good time you've ever had with us.
For the 20th and 23rd of October, the stylish Joe Janiga, of
Klezmocracy, will be joining us for select shows as well - a musical
meeting of minds we've been looking forward to for a while. You can
go to www.taarka.com for more specific information.

We're very excited about our new fall collection...of shows in the
Northwest and California. A Highlight for us will an Early Hallow's
Eve Party with the TAARKA quintet(!) and Ashbury Park, full of
wildness and magical mischief, at the Goodfoot Lounge on 10/29...Come
in Costume! Our shows are listed below, and as always, please check

Jeff,

Since you mentioned Taarka, I'll chime.

I went to Bumbershoot 2002 to see Dan on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday,
I ran into Taarka set up at a crosswalk corner. At that time, the
PHENOMENAL James Whiton (I mean that without exaggeration) was playing
stand up bass with the group. Kind of gypsy folk jazz. David said he &
Enion became tired of playing bluegrass and moved from New York to
Seattle and joined Jarrod Kaplan on percussion. I listened to a couple
songs and then was blown away by James' solo on "Bird Fish Falls", after
which I held up my $15 bucks for the CD they were selling and exclaimed
SOLD! They were sooo good I had to change plans and return to
Bumbershoot on Monday just to hear more of them. Unfortunately, James
left the group and now plays with EMT (Eric McFadden Trio). I'm sure you
heard the group with another bass player.

I introduced Dave Apelt, Mike Zim, and Harry Fulcher to them when Harry
visited the states. Mr. Z was considerably impressed. A couple other
hixters have become acquainted also. I'll email you off line.

I was just wanting to know if anyone post to this site anymore? I
am from San Diego and was lucky enough to make it up to the 2004

back and listen to this group called Taarka! My wife and I were
blown away by them! Even though the percussion player was a little
scarry with the fang thing goin on! Whats up with that? Then Enion
had like Raybans on and she would look down through them on Sunday
to reveal the deepest looking eyes! We stood and listened to the for
a good forty five minutes! Then the last day they were moving around
from spot to spot but we seemed to be able to find them. The last
day they were by the arcade so there was no sunglasses on Enion
beautiful eyes! Then David is unbelievable as is the rest of the
band with their instruments! They are a very polished and
professional group! You really were one of the true highlights of
our trip! I will be ordering a copy of Taarka's CD and David and

Does anyone have any of these shows?? If so, I would love to get my
hands on some copies. I had never heard Taarka before the festival
and they were one of my favorite surprises. Wow, what a great sound.
I had seen David in Thamusemeant in 2000, and was quite in awe of
him. When I realized that he was in Taarka, my friends and I ran to
catch almost all of their shows. I bought their CD and love it, but
if anyone can help me capture the first time I heard them, I would be
forever indebted.
                      Thanks y'all!!
                            Scott

Greetings Acoustic Music Fans!

Taarka is currently seeking volunteers to help spread the word about
upcoming shows
on our September tour (and beyond)... If you or anyone you know are
interested in
distributing posters or handbills, please drop us a line (email@...
or
taarka@...) & we'll be glad to send you everything you'll need.

In exchange for volunteer help, the band is gladly offering free CDs and
guest passes to all
pertaining shows.

TAARKA is now very happily in the final phases of mixing & mastering our new
CD. If all
goes according to plan, the (yet unnamed) masterpiece should be available
sometime in
mid-October. We'll be sure to keep you posted on the release date &
subsequent tour...

In the mean time, we're working on plans to tour down the West Coast more
regularly
& could definitely use your help with integral grass-roots publicity... The
more friends we
bring in to shows, the more quickly & gracefully we'll grow into venues that
are most ideally
suited for the music we perform...

We hope to hear from you & look forward to seeing you at these upcoming

Greetings Acoustic Music Fans!

So far, Taarka has been having a great Summer... The band performed 3
official (& 4 unofficial) shows
at The High Sierra Music Festival (in Quincy CA), and then was delighted to
be invited to perform as
part of The Oregon Country Fair's Midnight Show. The OCF was highly
incredible as usual, and we've
been positively charged ever since...

With our awesome new Acoustic Bass player, Jason Flores, we've been writing
& rehearsing a few
new tunes, and are currently in the process of recording our 1st major
studio CD. We expect (if all goes
according to plan) to proudly release our coveted creation sometime in late
Sept. or early October..

Thanks for the question Greg.

I'm a Taarka fan too and had the same question. I suspected the layover
was due to winter and time for creativity. I know members have their own
projects, but share your concern. It's a new group with miles and miles
to go. Hopefully the original cast will not collectively die. History
always wonders "What could have been" and too often, so_do_the_players -
only TOO MANY YEARS LATER, after its too late.

Life's a crapshoot,
Bill
P.S.
Greg, I'm not familiar with your product. Please email me offline with
details for correspondence.
