Iolanthe

This week I saw the GIlbert and Sullivan opera Iolanthe for the first time.

There, in one of the arias -

'Come bring your pipes and tabors'

Taborers are common enough in Shakespeare, but I had not come across
them in G&S.

Any other references in C19th works?

Steve

interesting old pipe currently on e-bay. this suggests a date of 1900 for this pipe, but extant pipes by this maker seem to date from the 1920s and 1930s....
