There is a pipe and tabor tradition in Mexico (which is, for the pedantic, in
North America, according to my Mexican amigo) - musicians for the voladores play
a small tabor and pipe
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danza_de_los_Voladores_de_Papantla), but I guess
you are maybe separating the US and Canada from Central and Southern America?
