Just came across this snippet:

Imported into London from Steelyard, Germany, on 14th April 1481, in a ship
called Mary, '1 doz. pipes (tabor)'



amongst a whole host of mixed cargo which included fabrics, ashes (presumably
for soap-making) and so on. There is no sign of drums in this import list.
