Hello Jan
All of my tabors with snares have a hole and peg to tension the snare -
usually one or two gut snares.
The most effective snare I have is on a folk tabor from La Gomera in the
Canary Islands. This has a single strand of rather 'kinky' wire - a bit
like picture wire that has been bent and generally mangled - it has a great
rattle.
Marcus Music is making a number of tabors to patterns from my collection,
including the English, Basque and Mallorcan.
