Who played the lead keyboard line on Choronzon on TT2 Paris '81 - or for that
fact, any other live show? Btw - the Paris version of Choronzon is just
sensational, eh?

I always thought something had gone wrong on stage when Bondy Parade was played
at Glasgow in '81 - if you listen to the recording of it, the percussion
kicks-in about three seconds, stops for about 5 seconds, then kicks-in again.
But you can hear the same thing on TT2's Newcastle '81 recording. Deliberate or
a problem that couldn't be fixed?

Apparently an intentional characteristic of the song. Every live
performance of it on the October-November 81 tour sounded like that.

Look up more info about these shows here:

(select the year on the menu on the left, then click on a particular tour.

Tangerine Dream DVD Digital Tree is all about.

**Yes, I also may have missed something. I'd very much like to see/hear some
Tangerine Dream concerts other than the instrumental rock show of 220 Volt

Any resources anywhere that give
anecdotal/circumstantial details on the recording
sessions for TD's hefty body of work? Like, when did
the group decide that 'Hyperborea' was going to have
one long piece on side 2 and did they have to rattle
off soemthing suitable to get the job finished in time
to make the 2 Athens gigs at the end of that month?

That kind of thing

Its seems that in fact it *is* a radio play, with Schmoelling's
music, like the children's play 'Der Zaubergeiger Settembrini'.

Okay, I finally got that Canyon Dreams I ordered from Amazon. ("Sent on
November 11. - Estimated shipping date September 1." -Guess they have a time
machine...) Had I known what I was getting, I would not have been worried if
the stock would have run out and I would have not gotten this... What's all
the fuss about? I'm disappointed.

This really resembles Oasis more than any Blue Years albums. Is this really
not remixed? Especially the end of Canyon Flyer sounds somewhat "Froezen" -
and that bit is missing from the Electronic Orgy version...

The only good track is Canyon Voices, and even that is not really great.
Most are so-and-so, some (like Purple Nightfall) are downright lame.

At least I spotted a whole lot of references to other pieces. I have this
long 88 Paul Haslinger piano solo (thanks Morgan!) and the main theme
appears to be from Canyon Voices. Sudden Revealation is strikingly similar
to Beach Bay Bunker (from The Dream Roots Collection bonus CD), they both
share the same flute(?) pattern; then there's Zen Garden -like percussion on
Rock Mountain Hawk, and some faint resemblance to Rubycon pt 2 on the intro
of A Matter Of Time...

As the headline says, "Lame Deja Vú" is the aptest description I can think
of.

Folks:

Does anyone have any suggestions for the best pair of
earphones available to block out area sound such as
other folks radios, conversation, etc.? I'm currently
using a pair of earphones that have an ambient noise
blocker/white sound circuit in them that help
somewhat, but not near enough.

I'm really, really desperate about this. I work in a

I'm trying to listen to emusic CDRs on my computer's

Any suggestions...please?

Hi Deb

I'm working in a rather noisy office at the moment and I've started using these
Sony earphones with my Minidisc player.

You might want to try a pair like this, with the moulded bits that fit right in
the ear. I find them pretty good for blocking out noise.

Save yourself the $300.00 or so dollars that the the new BOSE would cost you
and send a couple of dollars on a screw driver and some wirecutters. Work late
one night , unscrew the speaker and snip the wires then splice them back
together. they've just think your speaker stopped working.

Hello

I think there is a kind of special headphones manufactured by Sony which can
totoally block out outside noise. This headphone uses batteries though. I do not
know the item no. of this headphone, but a friend of mine who had a flight with
me used that, and he was able to sleep well on the plane in spite of noises
around. Maybe this suits you. Check out the internet for more info - maybe other
brands exist too.

Well, you're listening to it in reverse chronological order...I think
it would be fairer to say that Oasis is very strongly reminiscent of
Caynon Dreams, and that themes like the piano solo or the bonus
tracks you mention have been lifted from it!

I really like Canyon Dreams. The first few tracks all work well for
me, and "Sudden Revelation" is quite sublime. I wish they'd done more
in this vein.

Hi,

The Headphones are called Noise Cancelling or just NC - look out for NC in
the name of the Sony Headphones - they block out some frequencies better
than others so don't expect they can remove screaming children or teenagers
;-)

An example on such a headphone is here

I do not know the item no. of this headphone, but a friend of mine who had a
flight with me used that, and he was able to sleep well on the plane in
spite of noises around. Maybe this suits you. Check out the internet for
more info - maybe other brands exist too.

Try the Koss 'The Plug'. I've been using these now for 9 months and they
sound great. They are similar to a Earbud ('Oropax', i dont know the
english word for that), but with a small tube inside, that pumps the sound
directly into your ear. They block all outside noise (do not use while
driving or so), and have a very good bass response. And they are quite
cheap US$ 15,99. BTW, in germany, these are sold for some 35 Euro (about
twice as in the US. . .)

Scott, I agree that there is a similarity as I remember noticing it
when I first got a tape copy in '77. It's part of the third piece if
I remember correctly.

What an awful working environment, but at least you are able to
listen to your own music - even with background noise it's got ot be
better than unadulterated 'pop'. I can only listen to my stuff before
8.30 or after 5.30 when we have no 'phone calls. Surely if the
background music is so loud you can still hear it, you have grounds
for complaint as someone else suggested ?

I looked into this a bit myself for a similar problem.
I did end up getting some noise cancelling Aiwa
headphones. The thing about the NC headphones is I
think they are really designed with air travel in
mind. They are great for cutting out the low level hum
of machines and engines (great on the bus) but they do
little with voices, in fact I can hear outside voices
clearer since the other noises are filtered.

I went to a couple of high end audio stores looking
for the holy grail and one guy told me that that full
enclosure headphones designed to block all external
sound have disappeared largely due to lawsuits by
people wearing them and being oblivious to dangerous
situations. Apparently some guy never heard his smoke
alarm. Could be hype though.

On the plus side I've recently seen some headphones
being advertised for club DJs that are designed to
block out as much external noise as possible so that
they can liste and prepare their mixes. That's a lot
of sound to block out so that may do the trick. So you
might want to check out some music stores like Guitar
Center or whatever's local rather than
hi-fi/electronics shops.

Once when I worked in a machine shop I modified a pair
of large Koss headphones by apart them appart and
filling all the cavities with a dense foam, that
worked amazingly well.

That's like saying "You look indeed really alike, Benny and Matt. Especially
you, Ben."
The order doesn't matter. I'm not commenting on where these themes came
from... I just wonder why is Canyon Dreams so different from the other Blue
Years TD I've heard?

Yep, that's my point indeed - I don't like it.
Shadow Flyer, Canyon Carver and Colorado Dawn are all OK, but not very
special. Canyon Voices and Sudden Revealation are sort of good but I still
prefer Beach Bay Bunker & that piano solo. Water's Gift sounds like a
prolonged intro into nothing; the rest just plain suck.

Oasis at least has Flashflood, Summer Storm and Waterborne...

John Vertical (is this going too negative?)

Of course it matters, since your initial point was that Canyon Dreams sounds so
much like Oasis that you were wondering whether it had been re-mixed more
recently. As far as I know (but I'm not 100% sure) it hasn't.

TD's output in that period was quite heterogeneous anyway, so it's difficult to
say just how different Canyon Dreams is from Le Parc, Legend, Underwater
Sunlight, Tyger, or Livemiles (which are all very different from one another
themselves). I see no reason to believe that Canyon Dreams wasn't recorded
during (at the end of) that period; and my impression is that, when recording
Oasis, TD consciously revisited Canyon Dreams and some of the textures of that
album. That's why I think the order of release matters.

No, you just seem to prefer the more lively stuff, which is great. It's the
other way around with me. I like the three tracks you mention from Oasis, but I
don't think they age quite as well as some of the finer moments of Canyon
Dreams.
