IMHO the sequencing on Flux Echoes is pure Encore heaven. :)

Lyrics does not refer to this sort of...landscape but
IMO image is much linked to music mood all along
this record. I Read your description carefully, but for
me there`s not much real sense in tnat picture, again
just a combination of colors and textures that matches
perfectly with music...Also, I like very much the pic of
the four men, deaf, dumb & blind and a fourth one...
well, nuts !

For me, my first contact with TD at age 15, still one
of my top favourite, I`m very used to vocals adding
a differetnt climax.. OK Rising Runner may be slightly
weak, the rest is absolutely fantastic. Recently I
re-discovered this same album on vinyl (UK) and must
say audio quality is amazing, compared to (very) poor
sound of the CD.

No, not musically. The cover. I always thought it was a map of sorts - lands
of silver, golden seas, two major rivers, a mountain range to the south, clouds
or something all over it. There's even something resembling a compass rose at
the bottom. That's after all the environment where one might see a cyclone,
right? Not that there actually IS one however - just the title (in a Magrittey
"substitute a word for its referent" fashion), right in the middle of the bight
too.

However, I've just been suggested it's actually two *trees* on a *hilltop* in
*fog*.

Holy shit. It makes sense! Looking at the two brancing things, they definitly
resemble trees more than rivers; you can even see some cross'd branches in the
middle. The "mountain range" is another hill off in the distance, the "southern
continent" is some rocks, the "clouds" are strands of mist, that circle thing.
well, I have no idea what that would be then, the moon fallen off the sky?

(And I also have no idea what this theme has to do with the album.)

But, my belated congratulations, mr. Froese. That's a grand visual deception
of the Dalí sort if I ever saw one. :)

Report it to E-bay and they will pull the auction.

Speak of the Tangerine Tree, I'm wandering for some-one can help me repair
my copy (I as a branch from the beginning) but never got around to burning
all discs for my own use. Then a few weeks back I lost my entire copy due
to a disk failed (bloody Seagate 7200.11 drives) I've recovered of it from
some DVDs but I don't have the shn's from volume 85 through to the end (TT 8
- 10).

I'm in Ontario Canada.

thankx

Hmmmmm. Make the 3rd wheel Brendan Pollard and then we'll see about kicking
Franke/Froese/Baumann's ass…

Picking a tangent from there, does anyone here have the Free System
Projekt/Pollard/Hashtronaut collaboration (yet)? The first two names spell for a
promising collaboration — Pollard's solo albums have been a bit wanting in the
sequencer department IMO, and FSP should be a good patch to that — but I have no
experience with Hashtronaut.

Well I guess now people are allowed to sell TT or TL CDs on ebay!
Tangerine Tree Vol.4 Washington 1977 (with a fake cover photo) is up for sale.
The seller's location is allegedly in Uruguay. I hope there's a way to stop
this!

ARC is a great band with two fantastic performers.

But, IMHO there's something missing missing...they might benefit from a
third member. Question is, who would work best....?

Froese dislikes Cyclone IIRC.

I have always liked it, and still do to this day.

The Cyclone tour was not their finest moment though.

However compared to now...

Actually, let's not go there. :)

I just got back from a FANTASTIC ARC concert with Ian Boddy and Mark
Shreeve. I heard it was the 4th Arc concert ever and the first time in USA.
Mark is just fantastic in playing the sequencers live! What a memorable
experience. The encore after two great sets featured Shreeve's Assassin. It
was announced that this concert was taped and will be released next year.

I picked up "Arcturus" and I also have stock of Redshift Wild 3, so if
anyone needs a CD, contact me off-line.

Also, Arc will play a 1 hour live set starting Sunday morning at 2am (New
York Time) - in about 35 minutes on WXPN Star's End radio.
Go to www.starsend.org and catch the live stream!

It was also great to see a few tadreamers from this list too!

Vic

Here's my take on the album from ages back - since I didn't review it in the
same detail per track, you could say I copped out a bit but the idea was to give
the feel of the thing - all comments welcomed as always.

Andy G.

Tangerine Dream - Zeit
From 1972, the sound of space and the first album of synthesizer-based cosmic
music ever issued. Not only that, but further indication of how unique an
artifact this has become, is indicated by the fact that none of the so-called
"Berlin School" imitators out there has ever dared even to go near to recreating
the sounds on this album – probably simply bacuse you couldn't do it!! This
album is unique in its sound, its construction and its time in space. Opening
with the sound of the four cellists droning and drifting into space, the first
synth undercurrents are added several minute later and it isn't until around the
seven minute mark where the cellos die away to leave the synths to take over,
courtesy of Franke & Baumann while Popol Vuh's Florian Fricke provides extra
drifting textures in the background. Further on in the track, ex-member Steve
Schroyder's organ work comes to the fore while Froese, credited to just gliss
guitar and generator on this album, is presumably doing something somewhere,
although it appears to be Franke, Baumann, Schroyder & Fricke doing the majority
of the work on this first twenty minute track. Without a rhythm, melody, tune or
any semblance of structure in sight, it drifts, flows, floats and soars its way
to the outer regions of space and beyond. The eighteen minute `Nebulous Dawn'
drifts and drones into existence on waves of deep synth bass drifts, shimmering
deep synth layers, dark electronic sound welling up from below, the sound of
blackness as electronic space music shudders, the bass heavy drift eventually
dying away to leave almost industrial sounding space synths to provide the feel
of being in some outer world factory on an out of body experience watching the
whole mind-blowing situation – perfect music for the final sequence of the
""2001- A Space Odyssey" movie. Organ shimmers, generators shudder, almost
wheezing, upper register synth drifts continue as all manner of electronic
cosmic music elements come and go, what would be come the Tangerine Dream
trademark of letting nothing stand in one place for more than a second or two,
now already well in evidence as the whole track moves continuously but without
any rhythm, tune, melody or structure, one mighty organic amorphous mass of
mesmerising electronic music – and at this point, you're only six minutes in to
the eighteen minute whole.
Needless to say, from what's already beeen stated, the rest of the track and,
indeed, the rest of the album, consists of one gigantic analogue heaven of deep,
dense, dark, drifting, multi-layered, multi-textured cosmic space music that
remains unique to this day, remains timeless to this day and is every bit as
extraordinarily enjoyable as it was groundbreaking, thirty four years ago, the
classical music of the future.

I finally pulled out all the stops and wrote a review of _Zeit_. In the
process, I've developed a whole new level of appreciation of the album and
its musicians. Read more here: http://hotplate.freshbiscuits.com/?p=93

Compared to this, the other reviews don't see so daunting. J

Cheers!
