There is no denying that drums are a spiritual instrument.
Soft drums can calm the spirit and bring peace to the soul
but loud ,lengthy and repetitive drums beats can work the
audience up into an altered state of consciousness and
even into a frenzy. How many rock concerts have ended
with people being trampled to death?
Phil Collins once stated that he was plugged into
something bigger than himself and that he received his
ideas from a great spiritual source beyond. He couldn't
put his finger on it, but he knew that it was out there,
feeding him ideas.
Billy Cobham, on the other hand, worked with the
MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA which had its spiritual roots
in eastern religion.
On the "dark side", you had groups like Iron Maiden, with
drummer Nick McBrain and Megadeth with Nick Menza
who also claim spiritual power, except their music comes
from Satan.
I will admit it. The Devil can give the power to play
great music. The bible even admits that Lucifer was the
greatest musical angel. However, you don't want to go to
the same place where he is going, to fires of eternal
torture, just to become a better drummer.
Long before I acknowledged Jesus Christ as my
Lord and Savior, I was told that God gave me the talent to
play the drums, but back then I just laughed it off. Now,
at almost the age of 50, I'm just beginning to realize
the full scope of that revelation. In an aging body, I
now have more strength and speed to play my drums like
never before! Even when I was at the pinnacle of my
fitness and ability ,over 20 years ago, I could only play
1/2 the speed that I now play. Add to this the fact that I
set my drum practice aside for almost 20 years.
Jesus Christ is the Resurrection !
It is true that you may have great talent to play the
drums, but where did YOU get your talent from?
