Unless you're an oil magnate or the CEO of a health insurance
company, life is very tough right now. Artists who depend on CD sales
and performances to pay the light bill have always had it tough, and now
it's become worse. Venues are closing or reducing fees paid to
artists; fans don't have the money to go out to concerts or purchase
CD's; travel expenses have made it difficult to tour.
There is a way to help keep music alive without spending a lot of money.
First of all, CD's make great holiday gifts. Purchase CD's
directly from your favorite artists. Ask for a discount if purchasing in
quantity.
Next, consider hosting a House Concert. It's a great excuse to clean
the house! You will not have to spend a dime, and will hear your
favorite artists in the comfort of your own home. Guests only have to
pay the "donation" price and can bring their own beverage.
Guests have the chance to mingle with artists and ask questions.
For guidance in organizing a house concert, visit www.houseconcerts.com
<http://www.houseconcerts.com/> .
Thanks for your continued support and we hope to see you soon!

You'd be surprised how many people you know aren't registered to
vote.
Registration deadlines are coming up soon, and we need every single
vote we can get to win this election.
Tell your friends, family, and neighbors to check out our new one-
stop voter registration website.
Just forward this message.
VoteforChange.com makes it easier than ever to register. Instead of
tracking down the right forms, all you need to do is answer a few
basic questions and you'll be ready to vote. You can also:
Confirm your existing registration
Apply to vote absentee
Find your polling place
If you don't know your own registration status or you'd like to learn
more, take a minute to visit the site right now.
This race is too close and too important to stay home on Election

If you take the time to register and vote -- and make sure everyone
you know is registered as well -- we'll be able to turn the tide of
the past eight years.
It's people just like you who will transform this nation.

"When You See Their Eyes" was played on xm radio's Bluesville program on
the third anniversry of Katrina. Thanks, Bill Wax!
Here are the lyrics-
WHEN YOU SEE THEIR EYES
I don't know-but I've been told
The gates to heaven are paved in gold
But there's some folks-down along the coast
They've spent some time in Hell on Earth, God bless their souls
When I see-their misery
I can't hide-what's inside
You just wanna cry-when you see their eyes
You feel like dying-When you see their eyes
You wonder why-when you see their eyes
They've lost everything except their faith and pride
When you see their eyes
I've been up-and I've been down
The avenues of many towns
It's so sad-what I have found, people in the
Street , no food to eat, they can't lay down
It's plain to see-their misery
A broken smile tries to survive
You just wanna cry-when you see their eyes
You feel like dying-when you see their eyes
You wonder why-when you see their eyes
With no body there to comfort them at night
When you see their eyes
Thru many years and all the wars
Humanity-has been torn
Conquistadors-they reap the spoils, but refugees
Are left to weep for their families
Not hard to see-their misery
They're terrified-of genocide
You just wanna cry-when you see their eyes
You feel like dying-when you see their eyes
You wonder why-when you see their eyes
Their hope is for a savior to arrive
When you see their eyes

This special event is soon upon us! thank you to those of you who have
sent donations!
Bill, only in his forty's, never got a break when he was living. He
was a good person who was dealt many bad blows. After a short, but
difficult, battle with cancer, Bill has died. Unfortunately, he still
can't get a break.
His wife and teen-aged daughter are struggling to come up with the funds
to give him a proper send off. Nothing fancy, just proper. His wish was
to be cremated, and even this is out of their financial reach.
Last year, Victoria, Virginia, came out and generously helped Pete by
attending a performance by Terry Garland and Bruce Courson at the
Victoria Public Library. Donors were generous indeed!
I am asking you to do the same thing for Bill.
Terry and Bruce will perform a benefit concert for Bill at the Victoria
Public Library, 1417 7th St., Victoria, Virginia, on August 14, 2008 at
7PM. Please open your hearts, and wallets, to someone who is in
desperate need of our help.
If you are unable to attend the benefit, you can send a check to me,
writing "For Bill" in the comment section, and I will see that
it gets to Bill's family. Email me at terrygblues@...
<mailto:terrygblues@...> for mailing address.
Also, $5 of every CD sold at this show will be donated to Bill's
family.

WATERMELON SLIM !!!!!!!!
Blues Matters (U.K.)
"There's three themes in the blues I usually sing: work,
frustrated experiences, and consciousness of personal mortality. I have
a trucker's face and hands; I am the trucker's face and hands. I
sing what I have lived, in the blues."
Santa Cruz Sentinel
"Slim's buzzsaw-raw, intensely personal vocals, harp playing and
slide guitar are the products of life spent scuffling in hard, dirty day
jobs, and nights in innumerable blues lineups in clubs from coast to
coast."
Blues in Britain Magazine
"He looks a bit like Tom Waits and certainly as much of a character.
Slim delighted the audience with stories told in his southern drawl,
including how he bought his Dobro from a Communist, his love for
Britain…carrying a copy of the Complete Works of Shakespeare, which
he actually had in his bag onstage."
Charlie Musselwhite
"Watermelon Slim has found a new way to be traditional. His music is
modern and down-home at the same time. Anybody that likes blues will get
a kick out of this."
Elwood Blues (a.k.a. Dan Aykroyd)
"He's been a farmer, teacher, truck driver, and who knows what
else. He's also one of the best blues singers out there."
