The Texas International Pop Festival was held in 1969, Labor Day weekend, Aug. 30-Sept. 1, two weeks after Woodstock, in Lewisville, just north of Dallas. Artists included Janis Joplin, Santana, Led Zeppelin, Chicago, Spirit, Canned Heat, Ten Years After, B.B. King, Nazz, Rotary Connection, Sweetwater, Incredible String Band, James Cotton, Johnny Winter, Freddi King, Space Opera, Shiva's Headband, Herbie Mann, The Quarry, Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, Sam & Dave, Sly & the Family Stone and Tony Joe White. Wavy Gravy got his name there. The Hog Farm ran the first aid & trip tents and handed out food. Ken Kesey's bus, Futher, was there with Ken Babbs and the Merry Pranksters, who ran the campground and free stage. Locals complained about the skinny-dippers in the lake as they passed binoculars around. Hippies, music lovers and hippie wannabees all gathered together for a totally peaceful gathering. One child was born. One man died of heat stroke. Brown acid didn't get anybody high, but doobs were passed around for all. You don't have to have been there of have been a hippie to join in here, but it helps to have an interest.
