An idea for the masses.
You know...these are unprecidented hard economic times we are in right now. Nearly 1 in 5 do not have a job and many more have run out of assistance or unimployment benifits and had to take a Mickey Dee's job or worse just to survive.
Those folks are looking for a meaningful way to still supply SOME Christmas to their families on the cheap as their funds are soooo limited at this time in their lives. With THAT in mind...I KNOW we all have "stuff" we no longer use or need gathering dust around our homes. Stuff that is still in good shape...maybe not new, but, in good shape and still working that would supply THAT need for these folks if offered up for sale in a "garage or yard sale" or on Craig's list with the proceeds going to OUR worthy cause. Be a blessing and supply a blessing and in return receive that blessing. If only 16 of us did that between now and Christmas on a warm week-end those $1600 funds would be secured. Just a cranial burp from 'Ole Stash...your call...we're giving it a shot. What have we got to lose???

I feel weird asking for donations. For over ten years, I've paid for everything
out of my own pocket (with help from Susan). We've paid for the website all that
time. The DVDs I've sent out have cost me. So I guess I shouldn't feel so
strange. I will say that I'll account for the money on line.
The application fee is $100. That was paid by a donor who should be paid back
when all is said and done.
The marker we chose is $1500. You can see it at
http://www.thc.state.tx.us/markerdesigs/madpdfs/mrkr_types.pdf
I have yet to get a price for a plaque, however, if we get one, we may need to
have a stone monument or something of that sort built unless the DCTA people
allow us to attach it to the structure of the train station. I'll find out about
that and get a plaque price soon.

The stage was about where the field starts behind the apartments. The distance
from the stage to the RR tracks or the area we liked in the shopping center look
like they are about the same. At the corner of what is now Hebron Parkway and
Lakeside Circle looks like it is about where the festival entrance gate was (now
a Canes Chicken place). Hope this helps. Ed

to see just how far off from that it is. It does overlook the area where the
stage was. Does anyone know how far from the railroad tracks we were? Keep in
mind, the festival grounds went alongside the racetrack, which was at an angle
to the freeway. While the shopping center is, at the northwest corner, right at
the entrance, it's right on the freeway, where the festival grounds went at an
angle away from the freeway to the southeast, toward the stage. I think the
stage would have been to the south of the back of the shopping center, probably
just to the south of the apartments, my guess would put it at a point of a
triangle, with the train station and apartments being the other two points.

The application for the state historical marker is finalized and turned in. Now, we need to raise money to pay for the marker. ($1600 for ap fee and the marker- we would like to raise more so we can buy our own plaque that resembles the poster to accompany the marker) Any suggestions or volunteers to help? Any donations? Contact me.
Put it on the website and Myspace. I accidently fell into a new job. I now work for Willie's Place as Concert Organizer for the Kinky Friedman Campaign.

If anyone wants a Rotary Connection CD from TIPF with the booklet (a miniature
version of the program from the festival with a colorized cover made
specifically for the Rotary Connection CD), there's one on eBay that ends
tonight.
This is just the revised version of the essay for the application for a
historical marker. The chair of the commission wanted me to add some things
about the hippie movement (which I stole from my own website essay) and about
the condition of the site now.
We're just about there, folks!
Peace,
Richard
