Subject: [News] 100 Rocked By Louisiana Red [10/06/09]
| Hi, Top Blues News! If you're into the Blues, you'll be thrilled to hear that I've managed to secure a rare band appearance from Blues Legend LOUISIANA RED, who appears at the 100 Club on Friday August 28th with the MICHAEL MESSER BAND. Tickets will be strictly limited to 275 and are available now from http://www.rhythmgigs.com One of the last great surviving bluesmen, Louisiana Red was born in Alabama in 1932. His mother died a week after his birth and his father was murdered by the Ku Klux Klan. Louisiana Red has lived the Blues. Strongly influenced by Muddy Waters, Lightnin' Hopkins, Arthur Crudup and his friend John Lee Hooker, he has his own voice and his own unique Blues style. In 1983 he won the W.C. Handy Award for 'Best Traditional Blues Artist'. Michael Messer is recognised as one of the world's leading slide guitarists and blues innovators. The American magazine, 'Spirit' listed Michael as one of the greatest slide guitarists ever, alongside Duane Allman and Ry Cooder. His accolades include a US number one blues album. And don't forget THE BLUES BAND, featuring Paul Jones, Dave Kelly, Tom McGuinness, Gary Fletcher and Rob Townsend, on Friday 30th October. Tickets have been on sale for less than two weeks and we've already sold almost a quarter! You can buy them at http://www.rhythmgigs.com Talking of great gigs, it's just over a week to go to the debut by one of the very best bands I've ever encountered! I came across GANDALF MURPHY & THE SLAMBOVIAN CIRCUS OF DREAMS by chance on an internet radio station. I was knocked out by them and immediately checked out their website http://www.slambovia.com, which contains music you can download and listen to. I heartily recommend their performance on Friday June 19th and sincerely hope you can make it! If you were at Rhythm Festival 2008, you'll know about Gandlf Murphy & The Slambovian Circus of Dreams - the absolute smash-hit band of the event. Hailing from Sleepy Hollow area of New York State, they play an utterly unique blend of rock & roll, folk, and quirky Americana and have been called "the hillbilly Pink Floyd". This is a fairly apt description, particularly if you throw in elements of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, the Band, Neil Diamond, and maybe even some Frank Zappa as well. This is their first ever London show. Miss it at your peril. Tickets/ more details: http://www.rhythmgigs.com And this Friday (June 12th) it's the greatest party in town!! Fri 12 June: Seaside Special CHAS & DAVE + H.M.S.
