A Special Love

"A rather strange and rare thing happened to us recently,"
says Jim Claypool.
"My wife Ginni had a bad day at the day care-she wandered
off unsupervised, and I noticed her negative attitude as soon
as I picked her up. But it was our forty-eighth wedding
anniversary, and I was hoping to cheer her up by taking her
out for a nice dinner."

Ginni's Alzheimer's is advanced to a point that she really
does not notice much difference in restaurants, Jim says, but
this time he took her to a local TGI Fridays. The dinner was
nice, but "as always, it was necessary for me to help by
ordering for her and cutting her meat as she has trouble doing
that," Jim says. "I talked at length to her during dinner,
assuring her that everything was OK and that I loved her and
would always be there for her and do what was right for her. Caring
for
her is a constant and rather intense activity."

As dinner ended, the waitress set down the check and also a
box for the food Ginni was not able to finish. Jim was putting
her food into the box when the waitress returned with a
hand-written note. "Your check has been taken care of," she
told Jim.

Surprised, he looked at the note: "Watching you guys tonight,
it was one of the sweetest things I've seen in a long time. You
are one heck of a guy."

Although the man signed his note, he had already left before
it was delivered, and Jim has been unable to find him. "I want
to tell this story, not because he said something nice about me,
but to share the account of his generosity and amazing empathy
for a complete stranger," Jim says.

"I had been feeling a little extra blue because Ginni has little
idea of who I am, let alone that we are married and that it was
our anniversary. But this really warmed my heart. God works in
wonderful ways."

My thought as I blink back tears: Jim and countless other
caregivers need all the comfort we can offer them in their heroic
jobs. If any of us see a similar couple or family, let's think
of something to lift their spirits, just as this unidentified Earth
Angel did.

Today's Story

MESSENGERS OF LIGHT

I met another angel in disguise the other day. This one came in
the form of a beautiful little girl who couldn't have been more than
7 years old. I saw her at the local library hiding behind the back of
a couch. As I walked by she popped up suddenly and smiled at me. "I
know who you are", she said. I laughed and asked her who I was. "You
mean you don't know!", she said. She then flashed her bright smile at
me one more time before running off giggling.
This little angel left me with a smile on my face, a light in my
mind, and a question in my soul. Who am I? Who are any of us really?
Are we these bodies that carry us around everyday or are we more than
that? Are we our jobs and professions or are those just things we do?
Are we our families, nationalities, and skin color or are those just
more ways that we label ourselves? Are we our personalities, egos,
and experiences or are those things less than we are too?
I think that we are all of these things, but that we are much
more than them as well. I think that if we look deeply enough inside
ourselves we can see beyond these surface things to our very souls. I
think too that if we do we will find out who we really are: beings of
light, love, and joy. We are not just people struggling through our
lives here on Earth. We are also Children of God and angels in
disguise connected to each other by the most powerful force in the
world: God's love.
God is love and God is light ,and we are all here to share in
that love and light as well. It is God's love and light that not only
connects us with everyone in this world, but with our own highest
selves as well. We all need to cherish that connection and do all we
can to spread that love and light to the world. The word angel means
messenger. May we all follow that little angel girl's example then
and be messengers of love, laughter, and light in this world.

It's the way I can keep staring at you endlessly

When the wind blows heavily I breath into it
Thinking that it will get to your nostril
When I watch a TV program I also believe it is on your TV screen
When each time the phone rings
I grab it with great expectation believing it is you calling me
Each blessed day brings new hope
Then I realize that we are born to love
We are only here to be loved and to love
That the greatest commandment from Jehovah Lord God is to love one
another

Let it go to the hearts of others and let them share out of the love

THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS

There is a wonderful quote from Ben Franklin that always makes
me laugh and smile. It goes, "The Declaration of Independence only
guarantees the American people the right to pursue happiness. You
have to catch it yourself."

I know that every time that I pursue happiness I end up feeling
like a little boy chasing a butterfly without a net. No matter how
quickly I run after it, or how quietly I creep up on it each time I
am about to catch it I only end up watching it flutter away.

I have found, however, that when I stop chasing after happiness
and just relax that something amazing happens. When I stop my pursuit
and take a while to just breath deeply, smile, and thank God for this
beautiful life I have been given, I find that this wonderful
butterfly stops flying away and starts peacefully circling around me.
When I then take my eyes off of it and begin to just choose and share
love expecting nothing in return, I find that this beautiful
butterfly joyously floats down and lands on my head.

Maybe we all need to stop pursuing happiness so hard and start
just living it instead. God loves each of us and God wants each of us
to be happy. We don't have to chase endlessly after it. We just have
to choose it and share it all though the day, everyday of our lives.
When we are thankful to God for this life we have been given we will
have peace. When we love God, ourselves, and others we will have joy.
When we live the way that we were meant to live we will have
happiness. We all may have the right to pursue happiness, but it is
best when we just give up the chase and go through our lives with
love in our hearts, joy in our souls, a smile on our faces, and a
butterfly on top of our heads.
