I have just purchased the Diamond Night DVD, and really enjoyed it.
Judith mentioned Tom a lot during the evening. I only recently re-
discovered the Seekers as I was (and still am) a big fan of Dusty, and
although Ill never forget her, its time to move on ,so I became re-
interested in JD and S's. I also bought the Seekers At Home and Down
Under, good job I have got a Computer with a DVD drive, as my
Recordable DVD Player wont play it.
There is an internet website where Judith Durham talks about Tom
Springfield and his music. It can be found at
http//www.abc.net.au/love/episodes/s963991.htm
Judith appears in part two, She's Leaving Home. Just click on her name
and you should get the interview.
It was part of a series called Love is in the Air and it aired on
Australian TV at the end of 2003. It has just been repeated.

Apart from many more members for the group,it would be good to have a
photo of Tom at the top of the home page. Does anybody know where I
could obtain one from. I suspect it will have to be a photo from
years ago, as I dont suppose he has his picture taken now, given that
he is no longer in the public eye.

Happy New Year to you, too.
I believe I posted two emails last month sharing thoughts and requesting
information and they were met with resounding silence.

Just to say A Happy 2005 to all on this group. It would be nice if
there was some imput from someone other than myself this year.

I have just been looking through my 2005 diary, and most days have an
anniversary of something mentioned, including for 25th February , The
Seekers recording of Toms song "Ill Never Find Another You" reached
No 1 in the charts in 1965. I dont know about you, but that makes me
feel suddenly old, because that is 40 years ago Help!!

Ah - these are never easy for me! I think Georgy Girl is brilliant - and his
biggest hit. But then, I'm tired of it after all these years.
Morning Please Don't Come is a great recording with Tom and Dusty.
I am in a vocal group that has performed Broken Blossoms - it's a great
song. Somebody should really redo it right now, with the whole war situation as
it is. I think I'd say that's my favorite.
Anyone else?

Hi -
Thanks for the warm welcome. I was wondering if anyone knows where Tom is
living these days. I know he lived in San Francisco for a while and heard that
he was living back in London when Dusty passed away. Any ideas? Does he still
write songs?
Thanks -
Jack

Welcome to the 2 latest members.I recently attended a Judith Durham
and and Seekers concert in Melbourne, and realised how many of their
songs Tom wrote. Also I am a big fan of Dusty, and being as she has
quite a few Yahoo Groups dedicated to her, I decided to start this
one for Tom.

Tom also wrote (with Clive Westlake) "Summer is Over", which I have
found on a cassette called "Dusty Springfield Songbook". Yesterday I
managed to buy a reasonably priced CD Player,Radio,Cassette Player,
so I will be able to play that again. "Morning Please Dont Come " is
also on it.
Hi All
Well, that idea fell flat, perhaps there is already a Tom Springfield
compositions album.
Thanks to all of you have joined this group, pity more of the
Surfinseekers group didnt join. I did notice at the Melbourne concert
that when Judith mentioned Tom, there was a deadly hush for a couple
of seconds, which I thought was a bit off, as perhaps if Tom hadnt
written those songs, the Seekers woulndt be where they are today.
Some of the younger members of the audience are excused, because they
are a bit young to remember Dusty or Tom.
Regards
Angela.
Hello All.
I have had an idea. I wonder if one the record companies would
realease an Album of Tom Springfield Songs, sung by the original
artist and also any Tom has recorded himself, I only know of Morning
Please Dont Come which he did with Dusty.
If its true that hes no longer writing songs, perhaps it would be
good.
Regards
Angela.
It is wonderful to have a group dedicated to Tom Springfield on the
internet. His wonderful songs bring joy to many people all over the
world and I've often felt he never really received the praise he
deserved for writing so many beautiful songs.
Does anyone know how many songs Tom actually wrote during his career? I
know he wrote many of The Seekers hits, plus Island of Dreams, The Olive
Tree, Adios Amor and Sing Me Sunshine. The latter is on an Irish LP I
have by The Pattersons called I Can Fly and, according to the sleeve
notes, he wrote it along with Norma Tanega of Walking My Cat Named Dog
fame. I also know he wrote Nobody But You which Judith Durham sang on
her first TV show in Australia after breaking up from The Seekers back
in 1968. Angela mentioned he also wrote Just Loving You for Anita
Harris. Does anyone know of any other songs he penned?
The last I heard of Tom was that he wasn't writing songs any more.
Judith mentioned this in a TV interview and said it was one of the
reasons she started writing so many of her own songs.
Norma
It would be nice to know what Tom Springfield thinks about The Seekers reunion and all what has come after. Especially as they started writing and performing their own compositions. Tom must feel very proud.
I have wondered how he came to write "I'll Never Find Another You," what was it that formed the idea in his mind.
I feel sure The Seekers met and talked with Tom, perhaps before or after the Wembley Concert, the boys could have stayed in touch with him. In The Seekers "Treasure Chest" Interview, Keith Potger told us how he went to vist Tom, (the introduction was via Dusty,) to look at Tom's 12 string guitar, as Keith wanted a 12 string himself. So, perhaps there was a bond of Musionship between them.
Thanks for reminding me of the Seekers acknowledgement to Tom. A good example of "Less Is More" in those few words.
I've often wondered what Tom Springfield thought of The Seekers reunion and the sound they were creating onstage all those years later and even more, the type of music they were producing later on.
One would hope he was delighted with the reunion and I guess the fact he was in the audience speaks volumes. I also guess that given he was acknowledged from the stage by The Seekers indicates they knew he was there and probably even saw him.
Curiously, on the Silver Jubilee Album/Carnival of Hits CD, Tom is acknowledged thus: "Tom Springfield thanks for the evergreens". Simple, but true.

I was going through some Judith Durham CDS today and realised that
Tom Springfield wrote:
"Adios Amor," which Judith recorded On both Mona Lisa's and "Always
There."
I think this group is a great idea. last I heard of Tom was at the
Seekers Wembley Concert in 2000, it was announced that Tom was in
the audience.
Sylvie.
Hello Members
Thanks for joining my little group. Hope those of you who saw The
Seekers on their tour returned home and have settled back into normal
life again! I started this group because the Seekers themselves
already have a Yahoo group and Dusty Springfield has more than one,
and Tom didnt appear to have one.
Does anybody know what Tom is doing these days, I read on the
internet about when he took Dusty's ashes to Ireland to scatter, it
was very sad.
That is all for now
Regards
Angela. (the owner of the group).
