Adelaide Gig Review from: Susie Smith <sjsmith1@...>
A lovely balmy summer evening in Adelaide. Outside the Town Hall, favoured in
my memory by stunning performances by the Indigo Girls and Luka Bloom, a
reasonable sized crowd is gathering. I walk on in to see the usual anxious
looks of those waiting for their designated ticket bearers to arrive.
The Velvet Janes hit the stage and the partisan Ani crowd give them a polite
welcome, with one exception (ie me). I am mentally willing the audience - So
often the support acts are merely the opportunity to catch up, drink and dispose
of excess fluids prior to the main act.
The first song gets a good applause - good sign. The auditorium is gradually
filling up and you can hear the questions "who are they?" "They are quite good"
, "do they have a cd?"
By about the third song those of us seated are actively listening to the Janes
weave their magic and still the seats are being filled. Some banter from Mardi
and Rose, littered with their usual good humour and wit captures the attention
of the Adelaide crowd. By the end of the set the Velvet Janes received a huge
applause and the respect of the audience. Not to mention a few new names to the
mailing list, most of whom were extremely interested in the souvenir items
particular the crocheted vibrator protectors and toilet dolls!!
The Velvet Janes and Ani di Franco were Fabulous.
Thank you
Susie
