Yes indeed, one more time! Here are the FINAL tour details for our up
coming tour! There have been a couple of changes since the last email
so please check your area!

Thanks to all that sent in name suggestions for the tour - some of
them were hilarious! It was hard work, but we finally decided on the
name 'The Velvet Overgound Tour'...!! There were two people who
suggested that name, so if you can both contact me at
vjanes@... then I can take your details. You both will
receive tickets to a show of your choosing (excluding the SA
candlelight & dinner show) for you and three friends! Many thanks!

Hello! Oh wonderous member of the Velvet Janes mailing list. At last
and with great joy we are able to bring you the dates for our
upcoming Australian tour. We are frantically trying to come up with a
name for the tour ('Best of the Breast', oh, and a rather R rated one
so far)but are feeling rather creatively unimpressed at the moment.
SO, we would love your input. Imagine 5 women, 4 guitars, 1 tarago,
thousands of kms, some really dodgy venues (and some not so), two
people who don't eat pizza and a partridge in a pear tree...now, what
would you call that?? We would love to get some tees printed up for
the tour and if your name is chosen we will use it on that and
our advertising, and give you a box of chocolates...or something
equally as nice! Woohoo..a veritable competition. If you have any
ideas, please send them onto : vjanes@...

Also wonderful news from The Velvet Janes camp tonight is that we
just received news that our artists of exceptional ability visas for
the USA have been approved!There will be many bottles of champagne
(and guiness) being popped here tonight!This means that we can
perform in the USA for the next 6 years and is great great
news for us ! There were some amazing people who were involved in
helping us get these visas including Ani DiFranco and her manager
Scot Fisher, Faith Hill's promoters Gil & Liz Cunningham, Tommy
Emmanuel's US based manager Gina Mendello and David Bates from the
Speigeltent. We couldn't have done it without their help..many thanks.

So now, without any further ado. Here are the details for our
upcoming tour, that will include a cast of thousands, including a US
artist by the name of Laura Chandler who will be opening a number of
the shows for us. We will be heading to alot more regional areas this
time around and please pass this email onto anyone you happen to know
who lives in these places as a number of them are firsts for us and
we would hate to play with ourselves...well, maybe not! Anyway, read
on...

YES, these are the sounds that can be heard from The Velvet Janes
camp, as just announced from the Australian Contemporary Music
Touring Program, is that The Velvet Janes were granted $15,000 for
our next Australian tour. THIS means that we are going to be able to
visit alot more country regions and even make it up to Brisbane this
time round!!! It is sooo good that our government is so active within
the arts in Australia and big congratulations to the other Perth
bands that received grants too. It will be a WA takeover in the
Eastern States for Oct/Nov this year!

So, now that I have settled some...hello, hope you are well.

We are so very excited by this news that we can hardly wait to tour
again! This much I can tell you, the tour will start with a show in
Perth on October 20th and then hitting Adelaide on October 21st
before packing up our little tarago and heading up the coast and then
back to Perth. We will, of course, keep you informed about the dates
as they come in, but if you would like to see us in your area..then
now is the time to get your vote in!!! Email Kerrie Sellen at
management@... with your idea of town and venue and we'll
see what we can do!

So, what else can I tell you? Well, this weekend Rose heads of down
the Avalon descent for no doubt some hair raising kayaking, wave to
her as she flies past you in her boat thingy. And I just returned
from attending the Indie Music Conference in Nashville, Tennessee,
where I met some great American independent artists and learn't bits
about the industry here. (Oh, and hung out with ex Perth muso TJ
Dennis!)

We are both busily writing new tunes for the next tour, and I just
realised, that we haven't even brought the new Live CD out to you
folks in the Eastern States, so we look forward to that too!

Well, I think the subject heading just about says it all! ('Says
what?' I hear you ask) Hope that this finds you well, and somewhat
warmer than I at the moment.

Dropping in to bring you all the latest from the unusually busy,
slightly musical world of The Velvet Janes. If you have subscribed to
here by accident.. oh well. We're nice friendly people.

At last, at last..we have set the dates for our next Australian tour.
We are planning on starting our tour in Perth around October 19th and
this time heading to SA, VIC, NSW and for the first time, to Brisbane
too (So come on all you Brisbane folks, tell us where you would like
to see us play vjanes@...) (Your lounge room doesn't
count!) We are also going to head as regional as possible in SA & Vic
and of course head down South to Bunbury, Dunsborough etc. We are
both excited about the tour and will have some new tunes as well as,
if we can remember them, plenty of the old ones too!

The live cd has been chuffing along well and we have just brought in
a new online distributor for it and Opus. If you head over to

securely online and you can leave your reviews of both albums on the
Velvet Jane bulletin board..woohoo, never had one of them before!

The Velvet Janes have also recently been launched as a case study on
the intel.com site go to: http://www.intel.com/au/eng/home/ to check
it out and download a couple of songs! It has so far been launched
through Australia and the Asia Pacific and from what I understand it
will also be translated into other languages and in the next few
months it will also be launched throughout the US and Europe.

Also new to our site is the streaming media and mp3 downloads. What
that means is that if you are having a particularily boring day at
work, you can log onto www.velvetjanes.com.au/download.htm and click
on the top streaming media icon and it plays 3-4 songs back to back
over and over again and it is really fast with no buffering needed.
Kinda exciting really huh?

So..hmm..what else? Know those times when you have lots to say but
suddenly it all escapes you? Well, I just had one.

Okay so here is an amazing story. I have learn't this week about
being ready for anything. Aimee Mann was playing here for three
nights and I was a bit late in ringing up for tickets and found out
it was completely sold out. So, the day of the first concert came and
I was pissed about missing out on tickets and I spent the day
watching videos in bed and decided around 8pm to get up and go for a
walk down to the venue (which was just down the road) to see if they
were selling any tickets outside. I kinda felt that it was something
I should do in my gut, that there was a reason for it...know those
times?. So, I decided at the last minute that I wouldn't wear my pj's
with a jumper over the top..but did go down completely underwear less
and feeling kinda grotty. I get down there and there are a couple of
guys selling tickets for that night that looked kinda shady and I
decided to come back the next night to see again and I figured THAT
was the reason I went. Then I walked up to the main entrance and on
Aimee Mann's press photo there is an email address for her
management, and I am like, well maybe THAT is the reason I am here
(because I would like the VJ's to tour with her here). So, I was just
about to walk off and I figure I would ask the girl at the counter if
there are tickets available at the door any other night because I
didnt feel right about buying tickets off scalpers...nope, they were
completely sold out. I was just about to walk off and the head of
security walks up and says he has one ticket I can have, but I
say, 'oh, but I have a friend with me'..and he says, 'well, hell,
come on it, you can be my guests'. So, we get led to a reserved table
by the side of the mixing console right in front of the stage. Oh my
god. No underwear, haven't brushed my teeth, no deodarant, didn't
even look to see if I go the sleep out of my eyes and here I was
sitting in this concert for free at a reserved table, looking around
wandering if anyone else can tell these things about me. I decided
THAT was the reason I was there. Oh how the world presents us with
gifts if we only listen. (Wish I had've listened more and got cleaned
up appropriately!!)

Hello and cold weather greetings from San Francisco! You know those
heat waves we were having..for a minute I actually wished them back.
It is bloody freezing over here!!

Just wanted to drop a line to say hi to you all and keep you up to
date with our goings on at the moment. As you probably know, there
are no shows to speak of for the moment and we are busily getting
things set up in the US and Australia for the next phase of Operation
World Domination. (Or something like that!)

A quick recap..the Live CD launch happened in March to a warm and
yummy crowd at the Fly By Night Club in Perth, WA. It was indeed a
nice way for us to send our baby out into the world and we want to
thank you all for coming to that event. It was videoed and somewhere
down the track we are keen to put a live concert video together for
future distribution. Thank you too to all of you who are sending in
your orders for the live one, we are busily sending cds all over the
world at the moment. We are so very proud of this cd and hope that
you like it as much as we do! Would love to hear your feedback on it.

After that I headed off on one hell of a long plane ride to San Fran
and have been here now for the past two and a half weeks. What a spin
out it is! Last weekend I had an opportunity to go to the Californian
Music Awards and hang out side stage and watch the way 'they' do it
all over here. It was awesome to meet artists like 'Smash
Mouth', 'Meshell Ndegeocello', Metallica (teehee!) and some of the
nice boys from 'Rage Against the Machine'. It was wild..and I must
admit kinda scarey as I didn't actually know who most of them were
and kinda made it all up as I went along. It was a real learning time
though to see how it was done. I kinda feel like a sponge at the
moment. Soaking it all up!

So, the next step in the Velvet Janes world is to start preparing the
USA for us. We are hoping to start full on touring here by the end of
this year and at the moment we are both working towards getting wider
independant distribution for our albums through a variety of
different companies. We also have some wild web stuff that will be
happening over the next month and will keep you up to date with all
of that info as we get it!

Okay..just a quick reminder and an update for Saturday nights
extravaganza. Should I tell you the joke about the band who were having
a cd launch and almost didnt have any cds because there was a technical
fault that caused them all to be pressed again??? Oh..well, that joke

At last at last, we are home long enough to be able to send you an
email regarding the pre purchasing of our new baby..'Live at the Velvet
Lounge'.
We decided that because we are unable at this time to do a release type
show around Australia that we would make available, particularily for
you fine folks, the option of getting your hands on a copy of this
album earlier that before the end of the year..and in true Velvet Janes
style, cutting out the glorified middle man in the process so that you
can get it straight from us! Make sense?! Hope so.

So, if you would like to put your order in for a copy or two (or ten)
please do one of many things...either email us your credit card details
- vjanes@... - (and if you are security conscious please
feel free to send your card number and expiry date in two seperate
emails..one can't be used without the other) or else you can send it or

Hey Folks..! Just want to let you Adelaide people know that we have
added an extra show to our tour on Monday 6th March at the Crown &
Sceptre. There is a show called "Go Fish" on prior to us, and if you
have a ticket to that that night you can get into ours for the amazing
price of only $7!!!! Otherwise tickets are $10 and doors will open at
9pm and there will be no opening act..just us. So we will start the
show at 9.30.

Yes folks, it is official. We have been able to secure the use of a
venue for one show in Sydney..at last!

Darlinghurst

Doors Open at 10.30pm (please dont come before then as there is another
show on and you will have to pay twice!!!) Tickets at the door $8

Velvets on stage at 11pm - 12.30am

La Bar is said to be a very intimate, candlelight kinda venue and a
seemingly perfect one for our last show in NSW for a number of months.
Oh yes, and it only fits around 80 people.

Well hello there! And welcome to the first in hopefully many newsy bits
from us, for 2000. Hope your celebrations were worthwhile and vaguely
memorable!

So much news, it feels like ages since we have written!

We just returned from 5 days down South visiting the crew at
Dunsborough, Bunbury, Yallingup and Margaret River. All great places to
be if you are in the middle of a heat wave..but no one mention the word
'sunburn' to Mardi. Many a gig was played with a cold bottle of water
wedged between the guitar and her rather red tummy..well, that is what
she said it was for anyway!

Now we have come back home straight into rehearsals for our live
recording, which if you havent caught up with the news, happens on Jan
22/23rd back where it all started (well, something started) at the Rock
Garden Cafe, Inglewood. Doors Open at 6.30pm and we have requested
there not be as many tables (so get in fast if you want them) as usual
so people can sit on the floor or dance and hopefully take the energy
through the roof..it is our aim to get that energy onto tape! Sunday
nights show is an earlier starting time as the venue has to be closed
by 10pm. Special guest artist for both nights is a mate of ours from
South Australia who is a fabulous singer/comedial..Mary May Gill. We
are so very excited about this recording..as we are all of them, but
there is something so very special and amazingly scarey about a live
recording. Hopefully there will be most, if not all, of you favourites
on it..and a couple of newies too!

The other exciting news hot off the press (like a few hours!) is that
Ms Ani DiFranco has yet again given us an opportunity to tour with her
again around Australia come February. In the words of her agent in the
US, 'she loves you guys'..can't tell you how happy we were to hear
those words!! At this stage we know that we are taking on part of the
tour and will let you know asap, as to which part of the tour that is.
We are jumping around very joyous at the moment!

Also we are busily putting together our next national tour which will
take place from Feb 18th - March 7th and will cover NSW, SA, MElb and
for the first time country Victoria too. We will let you know more

Merry christmas, we wish you a..oh, okay, sure you get it, sure you
have heard that song enough over the past two weeks. I wonder if any of
the folks who wrote those christmas carols, that we have so grown to
love over the years, are still alive today? I wonder if they are hiding
somewhere in fear for their collective lives?

So, in all honesty, we do wish you all a fabulous Christmas and a safe
and raucous new year. And also we would both like to thank you all for
sending us emails, turning up to the shows, buying the cds and telling
your friends. It has indeed been a huge year and 2000 seems to not be
letting up any!

Big plans for 2000, starting with our long awaited live recording. We
are so excited and scared and excited about the whole event! The dates
that have been set for it are Sat Jan 22nd and Sun Jan 23rd, at the
ROck Garden Cafe (Civic Hotel, Beaufort St)..in the room that we had
dubbed 'The Velvet Lounge'. So, ten bucks for the person who guesses
the name of the recording. Yup, 'Live at the Velvet Lounge'. We will
let you know more details about it as we get closer, but please put
those dates in your diary and TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS! Obviously, with a
live recording one of the main things we require is..a live audience!
Tickets will not be a RED's kinda situation as we are over them, rather
a turn up at the door, or buy your tickets in advance from the venue.
Coming to open the night for us is a fabulous singer/comedian from
South Australia called Mary May Gill. We're talkin one woman comedy
that will have you rolling and get you ready to be loud and boisterous!

We will also be doing at least one major tour in Feb/March through NSW,
Vic, SA and possibly Tasmania. More details as they come to us!!

Come April I will be heading over to the US to begin setting up the
Velvet Janes Corporation(?) and to start putting together tours etc for
us over there. It will mean that we will not tour Australia again until
Oct/Nov at this stage but we will, as always, keep you up to date about
the happenings and goings on as they happen, and go on. Hmm.

But before then..we will be releasing our live album australia wide and
will come and visit you all for tea and cookies. (oh, and the
occasional show)

Please have a safe and wonderful Christmas/New Year break and we look
forward to seeing you in the new millenium!!

Other than that, it is quite on the VJ gig scene, we have a few gigs

planning a live cd recorded in Perth sometime Jan, a down south tour in
WA in Jan, Eastern States tour Feb/March, and an assortment of other
great surprises that we will let you know about soon!

donated to the Women's Health Care House to be given out to the
children of the women that attend their programs.

Hello there oh wonderous email recipient..tis Mardi here, still in the
US but feeling not so bogged down with snot and assorted other cold
producing experiences! Again our apologies for the cancelled
candlelight show, I am hoping that you all got the messages that it was
cancelled - thank you for your well wishes, they worked!

The US trip has been an amazing one so far, just yesterday I sent off
our first order of Opus to the new catalogue that will be stocking it
for the next 6 months. They are called Femail Creations
(www.femailcreations.com), a wonderful group of sisters who run the
catalogue and stock it with 'gifts that are made by women to encourage
and inspire other women'. We had a very funny breakfast meeting with
them that quickly turned into a lunch meeting, that could have just
kept going! They have a client base of 1.5 million people across the US
and are very excited to have our baby in their next one. So if you have
any friends in the US that you were wanting to get a copy of Opus to
for Christmas, please go straight to them and they will package it up
(complete with a velvet journal if you so wish!) and send it off to
them for you.

Now for the bad news about the expected show at Mojos on the 8th.
Unfortunately, due to the fact that I am still here, we have again
postponed that show. Hopefully to reschedule before we head off for the
Adelaide tour (28th October). After we get home from that tour though
we have other fantastic shows lined up (including one with Paul Kelly)
and tours down south over the summer period. We will keep you posted!
Tell you though, can't wait to play for you all again.

For the Adelaide folks we are in your town from the 28th Oct - 10th
November and then we are now heading to Melbourne to do a show with The
Bluehouse at the Prince Patrick on the 13th November (I think!, I will
confirm it later!!) And then we will also do a solo show somewhere over
that weekend.

The rest of 99 will be spent in WA before we head off on tour with our
favourite artist again in January 2000..wow, feels kinda funny to type
that.

So, I hope that this finds you all well. Thanks for supporting us so,
thanks for your letters, your emails, your thoughts.

We also bid a fond farewell to our friend and one of the first people
to ever start supporting The Velvet Janes, John Hooper (**hi John!**)
John is heading off to Sydney to be with I am certain, a very lucky
lady, our thoughts and thanks go with you John. We will miss seeing
your face. (Not to mention the red snakes you bring to shows, okay,
someone else has to pick up that baton!)

hello there folks! Just wanted to send out a quick email to let you
know that we have had to cancel the candlelight show this Saturday
night (25th Sept). As some of you will know, Mardi is still in the
States and was scheduled to return on Tuesday but has a not nice
flavour of the flu and so is unable to fly at this stage. We have been
holding off to see if she improved any, but unfortunately it has only
got worse. And the thought of potential ear damage and sitting on a
plane for 20 hours feeling like shit, isn't too appealing.

Our sincerest apologies to those of you who organised to come, it is
the first time in our history that we have had to do such a thing and
it has been no easy task for us. Please know that we will reschedule
another candlelight show before we leave on tour in October and your
names will have first priority to tickets to that show.

We have also scheduled a show at Mojos on Saturday 9th October. We also
hit Adelaide on October 22nd for the opening of Feast and a whole two
weeks of other events and shows that we will let you know about soon

its rose here so you will notice a few differences especially the fact
that i am too lazy to punctuate when typing!!!!!!  anyway, hi from the
big apple and yes it is HUGE  and i love it .times square is wild  so
much to see and do, so
many places to visit and so many shops that im having a visa card
meltdown!!!
new york fashion forecasts for the summer are black white and grey, and
you must have the black tote bag complete with a bichon frise (thats a
cute little white fluffy dog) to put in it. yes thats right folks you
can have it all in New York City !!!!

  well a quick update on what we have been up to.  Sarks pyjama party
was fantastic, 350 people in their jamies(including us) Joshua Kadison
opened the show, Sark spoke for about half an hour and then the "folk
rock divas from down-under"  played for about 40 minutes..it rocked.

The response was quite overwhelming and we signed and talked with
people for over two hours at the end of the show (thank God we were all
in bed at the time but more about that later) Ok so the next day at the
post-show do we were approached by a fantastic company  who want to
distribute our products across the USA and also an agent asked if we
would be interested in talking with an entertainment lawyer, we said ok
sent her home to New York with a cd , he had
a listen,played it to his boss and here we are sitting in New York as
his guests getting ready to go see him tommorrow! Also before we left
San Fran, we stumbled into an Open mike show one night and performed
Shame on me and purple
and the promoter booked us on the spot for 3 more shows and is taking
us to some showcase gig at a famous little acoustic joint in Berkley
called Sweetwater. Last saturday night we did a gig in San Jose,
remember those shows when we forget to eat and John or someone hands us
red snakes...and we go to La La land.....well our lovely polite
american audience got a taste of that and then some!!!!!!!!! it was
very very funny and someone taped it so bootleg live albums are a
possibility.

Next week we head down to LA for fun at Disneyland, hopefully meetings
with Melissa Etheridge's manager and indie film makers. Then back to
San Fran for the above mentioned shows and a final weekend of partying
with a fellow Aussie,
T.J Dennis who is flying over from Nashville to say Hi.

So in a nutshell, we are playing shopping partying thinking negotiating
pondering talking listening laughing eating drinking margueritas
walking riding the subway looking hanging out having fun missing Zac
and enjoying a northern hemisphere summer

Hello there oh email friends of ours! This email comes to you from on
top of Telegraph Hill in San Francisco. I'm certain someone told me it
was going to be summer over here, and hence the reason why our
suitcases are filled with summery kinds of clothes. But, I look out
across the top of this fine city and all I see are dark dark clouds and
blankets of fog. Hmmmm. Not sure that tan thing is really going to
happen.

So..we returned home from Adelaide on Monday night (hello to all the
new Adelaide people on the list!!) after doing something like 22
performances over 8 days. We played in between quilts and chem dry, at
juvenile detention centres, freezing cold beer gardens on rainy night,
sweaty rooms filled with people and smoke, great supportive community
radio stations and just about any where in between. By the final show
though we were very close to hoarse and needing a good sleep.

Twas not to be though..we arrived home at 10pm Monday night only to be
thrown into a sea of dirty clothes, suitcases and bills, all of which
had to be fixed in 12 hours. Then we boarded our first plane to arrive
safely in San Fran, albeit suffering somewhat from sleep deprived
delirium, but safe none the less. So..where the hell did summer go??

We have slept for two days, eaten great food and laughed some and now
we are getting ready to start our shows here. Tonight we are being
interviewed for a documentary that is being put together about Sark and
her work and tomorrow real early we start the media, sound check,
schmoozle bits. The hotel Monaco, where the event is being held, is the
most magical of places. You walk in and are greeted with heavenly
scenes painted on the ceiling, magical staircases that look like they
go to heaven and velvet and cushions and open fires. It is so yummy.
The event sold out weeks ago and we are looking forward to having some
fun with the Americans that are turning up from 22 States across the US
for the night.

So...as I sit and lament the lack of sun and eat bagels and walk the
streets of San Fran (trying to earn some extra money)(teehee..NOT) we
are happy to have moments to rest our souls after what has been a HUGE
year so far. For those folks in Perth we have scheduled another
Candlelight show for Saturday 25th September so get your ticket orders
into Marisa at jo_marisa@.... (We are also looking at possibly
doing one on the Sunday night too if numbers are there) And then
Adelaide folks we are back your way from the 22nd October for the
opening of Feast and three weeks worth of other shows. Sydney &
Melbourne folks we hope to visit you in between times.

Helllo there again! Just wanted to let Perth folks know some last minute details
about this weekends shows.

Saturday night is at the Rock Garden Cafe - doors will open at 6.30pm and you
can book tables for dinner by calling the venue on 9272 1011 - I think though
that you have to all be there at the same time etc etc (I'm sure they'll tell
you the deal when you ring up!) Also on that night we have Gary Ridge joining us
on percussion and our special guest opening artist for both nights is Matthew
Delahunty.

Sunday night at Mojos doors open at 6.30 again, and it will be and early show as
doors shut at 10pm. Again we will have Gary Ridge and also Roy Martinez on bass
(For those of you who were at the CD launch, they both played there with us too)

Then last but not least, I wanted to remind people about the Candlelight show on
July 17th - which is our final 'unofficial' (as opposed to 'official') show
before we head off on what seems like months of touring.  Tickets for that night
can only be booked by emailing - jomarisa@... and remember, by booking
tickets you are effectively paying for them so don't book what you can't use!!
As far as I know tickets are already 3/4 sold out for that show, the last one
was a great night and this time we are calling it the 'Request Fest' so get all

to ask for songs..it has been a great help, please don't stop! I know you will
probably say that I am biased, but it is great to see them getting behind local
