I had a friend, a teacher, in Sao Paulo, Brazil who had his film
students insert the North score ( I gave him the Goldsmith CD) into
the film extant. The result was interesting, but not without
problems. the Fanfare was especially good over the opening visuals
and North's music "humanized" the Dawn of Man sequences lending
poignancy to the story. The space station music worked against the
typical Kubrick coldness. I understand Kubrick's dissatisfaction
with the music but can never excuse his treatment of Alex North.
