Re: Newbie

Hi Mike,

Welcome to the group. This is a low traffic group but what is
posted is generally quite useful.

The search for software to control stops is sort of the holy grail
of computer organ projects. I downloaded Comput'organ some time ago
but I didn't even get as far as you have. It was pretty clearly not
what I was looking for so I didn't spend much time on it. I have
heard that Patrick Brusorio passed away.

I believe Bruce Miles has used Comput'organ with some success.
Bruce is quite friendly and helpful. I would suggest you contact
him directly and see what help he might be able to offer. His email
address is at the bottom of the page:

The general idea is that you need to send a bank switching command
to the SoundBlaster MIDI device to tell it which collection of
instruments you are using on each channel. I don't recall exactly
what that instruction is off the top of my head but if you get down
to the point of just needing the actual numbers for a bank select,
post again and I'll dig it out.

Another program you might want to look at it Hauptwerk by Martin
Dyde.
http://hauptwerk.co.uk/
Hauptwerk does not use SoundFonts. It includes its own softsynth.
It uses incredible amounts of memory but it sounds very good. The
thrust of that project has been creating virtual reproductions of
historic organs. It has a very nice GUI and excellent facilities
for connecting a real organ console.

Best of luck with this.

Jim Henry

Hi. I came across this group while doing a search, and while my main interest is in Classical organ I do tinker with the pops also. I noted one of the previous...
