HALF OF CONCERT NEVER RELEASED

From the quotes by Robbie in previous message, it
sounds as if he's going to pass up an opportunity to
really release The Last Waltz as its never been before.
Except he says he may add more interviews with him by
Scorcese, and include footage of himself writing the Theme
for The Last Waltz. Sad.

When Scorcese and
Robertson originally edited the film it was kept short
enough to fit theatre-chain-preferred movie time slots,
which studios went along with more in those days. Maybe
if Robertson and Scorcese had known the film was to
be critically acclaimed as the best rock concert
ever filmed they would have included the rest of the
concert.

I was lucky enough to be at the concert, and half
has never been released. It was first thought
glitches had prevented the release of the equally
outstanding other performances by both The Band, and their
guests. A leaked direct-line recording of the concert
from start to finish on 4 CDs reveals these
performances to be equally as great as what was
released.

It is hoped that Robbie makes a definitive DVD
version of this masterpiece, restoring the rest of the
concert to the original release, digitally remastering
the film and audio tracks, and in widescreen as it
was originally filmed. A DVD of the original release
would be a shame after 25 years. The concert contained
many excellent and historic performances that have no
place in the vault (or Robbie's personal copy). The
magnitude of the music history caught on film would justify
a 2-DVD set. May wisdom prevail.

I think the spirit of The Band would be best preserved by releasing The Complete Last Waltz as it was recorded. No overdubs, no tinkering with the original...
