Hi family, friends, and pals of The Color Guard,
I'm writing to share my excitement about volunteering for the Rock 'n'
Roll Camp for Girls! It's a week-long day camp for girls 8-18 from all
over the country to learn to play rock, write songs, form bands...and
at the end of the week, PERFORM at their very own ROCK SHOW! And in so
doing, build self-esteem, creativity and skills in working together.
The website for the camp is: www.williemaerockcamp.org/
The fabulous concert will be open to the public, Saturday August 13,
and I will let you know the details closer to that date!
Meanwhile, for those who'd like to help, it's a non-profit organization
run by women musicians volunteering their time, so the camp needs
donations of various kinds. All are tax-deductible.
- Equipment: Musicians, if you have any old instruments, amps, etc.
taking up space in your apartment, you can unload them on the Rock Camp
and feel good about it! The organizers plan to make the camp an ongoing
program, so the equipment will be used continually. If you're not sure
you want to get rid of something but would feel comfortable loaning it
for the week-long camp, that's welcomed too.
- Food and brewed coffee: The camp seeks to provide breakfast and lunch
to campers who qualify for the free lunch program in schools during the
academic year. They would also like to provide meals and fresh coffee
for the all-volunteer staff.
- Private donations as well as corporate sponsorships: If you think
your company might want to be a corporate sponsor, or if you'd just
like to send a few dollars to the camp, all the information is on the
camp website under "Donate."
The website again is: www.williemaerockcamp.org/
You can also email me back with any questions, and I will either answer
them, or find the person who can answer them.
Thanks for rocking with me!
