That's right, the last show for The Color Guard as you know it! We will
be taking some time off to write and explore, so come out to this show
or forever live in regret! NEW SONGS YOU MAY NEVER HEAR AGAIN, I tell
you! A mystical event, perhaps. Disappearing forever into oblivion....
(stop me, now).

On Monday night, dark pop foursome The Color Guard will be wrapping up a
creative 5
years together with a final show at CBGB Gallery. We're playing one of our very
favorite
parties, Alchemy, with one of our very favorite bands, German metalheads Lesion.
The
night opens at 9:00 with a special appearance by Projekt Records' Unto Ashes,
followed by
Of the Between. We play at about 11:00.

Members of The Color Guard have had a great time together and are extremely
proud of
our three CD releases -- if you haven't heard the latest, "Dark Pop," it's a
kaleidoscope of
heavy riffs, soaring madrigal harmonies, and singalong melodies. Take a listen
on iTunes:
"Your Kiss is My Command" laces a flute through quasi-Eastern aphrodisiac
vocals, while
metal torch song "The Woman Behind the Woman (Oh Mary Magdalene)" tells an
alternate--if blasphemous--side of the only female apostle.

We will continue to offer our monthly "free downloads" on www.thecolorguard.com,
so you
can collect 'em for free if you want.

Or better yet, come to the show! We'll play selections from "Dark Pop" and
"Speech For
Heated Hearts," as well as a bunch of amazing new songs you may never get to
hear again!

This probably won't be the last you'll hear of us, as we all will be continuing
to make music
and might even collaborate on future projects. And who knows--maybe The Color
Guard
will re-emerge one day.

It’s a Rock Camp Showcase Extravaganza!!

Come see the students from the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls rock out
in
their first public NYC performance ever! This performance will feature
12
to 15 all-girl bands from the rock camp. Bands will be comprised of
girls
ages 8 to 18. They will be playing all original songs that they have
created and practiced throughout the week prior to the show. Some of
them
are brand-new on their instruments, but all of them will most certainly
rock your world. Come see a new revolution in girl rockers at the
showcase!
Here’s the info:
When: Saturday, August 13th, at 6pm
Where: the auditorium of the Society for Ethical Culture- on 64th St. &
Central Park West
Cost: a mere 5 dollars, all to benefit our nonprofit rock camp
organization
What else: The auditorium seats 850 people, so please bring all of your
friends and neighbors. It’s guaranteed to be a good time for all.
What else: The Lower East Side Girls Club will be selling baked goods
in
the lobby, and we will have available original “merch” that the girls
will
have produced during the course of camp week- hand-screenprinted shirts,
buttons, posters, and more.
Come see the rockin’ experience that has been happening in Portland for
years…
For more info, please see our website at www.williemaerockcamp.org.

**We are currently seeking space to house a year-round Girls Rock
Institute in NYC. We would love to share the space with other groups
that
would like to work with us- we would (initially) only need the space
either during after-school hours or on Saturday afternoons. We are
especially interested in donations of space for a year-long period, so
that we can get started with the program. We are a nonprofit
organization, and any donations would be tax-deductible. Please get in
touch with us at volunteer(at)williemaerockcamp.org if you have any
ideas
on possible spaces that could accommodate our program. Thanks so much!!

Hi family, friends, and pals of The Color Guard,

I'm writing to share my excitement about volunteering for the Rock 'n'
Roll Camp for Girls! It's a week-long day camp for girls 8-18 from all
over the country to learn to play rock, write songs, form bands...and
at the end of the week, PERFORM at their very own ROCK SHOW! And in so
doing, build self-esteem, creativity and skills in working together.
The website for the camp is: www.williemaerockcamp.org/

The fabulous concert will be open to the public, Saturday August 13,
and I will let you know the details closer to that date!

Meanwhile, for those who'd like to help, it's a non-profit organization
run by women musicians volunteering their time, so the camp needs
donations of various kinds. All are tax-deductible.
- Equipment: Musicians, if you have any old instruments, amps, etc.
taking up space in your apartment, you can unload them on the Rock Camp
and feel good about it! The organizers plan to make the camp an ongoing
program, so the equipment will be used continually. If you're not sure
you want to get rid of something but would feel comfortable loaning it
for the week-long camp, that's welcomed too.
- Food and brewed coffee: The camp seeks to provide breakfast and lunch
to campers who qualify for the free lunch program in schools during the
academic year. They would also like to provide meals and fresh coffee
for the all-volunteer staff.
- Private donations as well as corporate sponsorships: If you think
your company might want to be a corporate sponsor, or if you'd just
like to send a few dollars to the camp, all the information is on the
camp website under "Donate."

The website again is: www.williemaerockcamp.org/
You can also email me back with any questions, and I will either answer
them, or find the person who can answer them.

Thanks for rocking with me!
Lalena

Just a reminder that Monday is ALCHEMY!
(Village Voice show preview below.)
****************************************
Monday, June 20 *** ALCHEMY, Dark Music Every Monday at 313 Gallery
Doors at 10:00; $5 cover; 313 Bowery next door to CBGB main space

10:00 - Plumerai (Boston-based girl and boys play lush, ethereal rock
along the lines of Portishead, Cocteau Twins and Kate Bush ...
www.plumerai.com)

11:00 - Diabolique (Melodic hard rock led by a girl who spent her
teenage years learning AC/DC riffs ... www.diaboliquemusic.com)

12:00 - The Color Guard (Arty, heavy proggy pop with thick madrigal
harmonies; featuring the illustrious Blue Liz Lysinger on keys for this
show ... www.thecolorguard.com, www.lizlysinger.com)

THE VILLAGE VOICE:
"The Color Guard’s Lalena Fissure sings dark, Middle-Eastern inflected
vocals above pounding drums and weird, saw-blade and glitter guitars
that shade the band’s experiment outside the lines of girl
rock-by-numbers. Eyelash just changed their name—to Diabolique— but
their hard rock and femme fatale template remains the same. Also:
Plumerai. (CARR)

We have three shows this week, so take your pick (below)! We'd love to
see you. Especially if you haven't witnessed the wonders of our highly
skilled and charming new drummer, Joe Salvati!
There's a new review of "Dark Pop" on a webzine called OneTimesOne, to
wit: "They are on their way to making one hell of a bold statement. ...
Eclectic, poetic rock with thrashing drums and lustrous guitarwork
combined with intensified vocals full of stories just waiting to be
shared." Here's the link if you want to read more:
